still had a load in the canner. Talley is up to 38 today....and there's at least that much more left in the garden to be picked.

That's some nice peas! Y'all have been working hard on the garden. We have too, it's been mostly a good year. Winter is coming and who knows what else?

My year started good and went South. I do have butternuts still going but rest is done. My squash, eggplant and some peppers did well. I'm ready to replow and "hope" for some winter things....if the rain would stop!
It's where you guys were a couple years ago -- a NEW site, it's first year. As all gardeners believe "always next year". The ground is excellent, just have to get the grass out and under control. I see great improvement in about 2/3 of it -- where I really, really concentrated the root removal. Hope to get those corners this winter. It's looking hopeful. 😁
I bought some excellent tomatoes from the produce auction and have talked with the farmer -- I will save seed! They were heavy meated canners, with excellent slicing use taste. I find long keeping qualities when picked, also. This guy -- a small family farmer, mid 30s guy -- has some excellent produce. I plan to go visit his farm...just want to see the methods that are working. He's good with it and I'm thrilled. He uses field and large hoop houses. It's not just your backyard size but started that way years ago. Might even get some plant starts in Spring....from the farm would be worth it! He has hundreds, I only want a couple dozen
and sure not competing with him!

well guys I've bee working like a borrowed mule and the homestead has been suffering. I gave my boss an ultimatum and he caved for more $$$. that's cool, but i was kinda looking forward to some time off. I'm getting a little burned out.
this month is gonna suck so bad. I have classes in Dallas from 5-9 most of the month. it's about an hour and a half drive so I'll be missing alot of work as well. but by the end of all this hopefully I'll be able to add 'licensed journeyman plumber" to my resume.
meanwhile I have around 8 rabbits that need to go in the freezer and another doe just kindled a surprise litter. don't ask... I've been slacking I guess. I should have 25 more meat birds here soon. I'm hoping to get one more batch I the freezer before the weather gets too cold for them.

oh and I've pretty much gave up on the garden and turned the chickens out on it.

Glad you got a raise. Work like a borrowed mule! Hahaha! At least now you’ll be a better paid mule!
Only thing keeping me from turning the sheep in on my garden is the sweet corn. I think I got something like 30 plants and I sure want that corn! After I pick it, I’ll chop the stalks down and toss over the fence to the steer we got yesterday. In the meantime, sheep are grazing the yard.
