Hunting and fishing stories

We had a snaping turtle come when we were not looking and take the 2 fish right of our stringer at my grandad's house!!
I've had that more than once. A whole stringer FULL gone going down to the next pond then coming back. I learned a little from that and have had a basketful of fish snake bit while I/we were gone. They didn't make it in the basket yet, or they already got back out, which would be hard. Just a floating basket of dead fish.

That sucks

This big red stag has been seen a few times on a property I shoot on, he is safe as the land owner doesn't want him shot, plus I can't eat antler and have shot plenty of big stags over the years, heaps of yearlings around at the moment which are the target right now as we are into Summer.

fawns and yearlings taste better anyway! What a beautiful big boy!

My favorite was when we went camping with my parents not long after we got married. I warned my husband that we had to catch breakfast and I don't think he really believed me until we were actually there and everyone was getting their poles out in the morning.

Streams in the Eastern Oregon mountains so was brook trout with a limit of 5. I've always been good catching them and was done first as usual.

Absolutely, that's how population management works. Gotta keep the antlerless population in check. In my county, the DNR has more antlerless tags available than hunters can fill. The county forester walked my property and advised DH to harvest as many as possible due to browse damage.

If we don't maintain the population, deer starve to death in winter. Gruesome.
