What kinda chickens? Where ya getting 'em.

Tomorrow cream legbars. Next month Bresse. Both from individuals who are incubating eggs from purebreds. Both hr+ drive, different directions. They pd big bucks at Greenfire and are now able to incubate a few small batches. It's $8 & $9. per chick but that's still about a third of buying where they did, so I'm ok with that. Legbars will be 10 pullet, 2 roo. I already have a pair of them from Greenfire. Next mo straight run Bresse. Hoping to get at least 50% that are female 🤞it's why I'm spending for that many. Extra roos -- sell or feed and butcher. Not bad layers but --supposedly excellent tasting meat. We'll find out. 😂🤣

A lot of my blue eggers are getting aged out, so the legbars. Barnyard mix I have and doing great. Have 3 light Brahmas from that big buy/sell a few months back and really dislike them as a layer. Big hen, small egg and not daily. Sellers for sure.

Tried to buy adults -- 🤣 nope. Eggs? Nope. Eggs from Greenfire almost more than these chicks and none when I want. Hey, we do what we gotta do!

Oh -fancy chickens! I need some more green/blue egg layers. Have some barnyard mix in the incubator - should/might get some out of that mix. More likely however to get some more nekkid necks, lol. Big, bossy nekkid neck rooster doesn't let the other guys have their turn very often, lol.

the price at our "local" wallys world was not much changed and large mouth lids were still bad and small mouth were also higher than i'd like but we did pick up a few boxes of the large mouth lids since i've not seen those much at all. amazing what they are charging for a small bit of metal and some gunk around the edge, but i do know they have the costs of the factory and people and all that... so... reuse the lids as much as we can for other things. that saves some expense later. we sure do try to get our money's worth out of all of them.

I have not seen the the Wally World prices change, although they are also well stocked. Price drops in what I will call the ancillary or second tier retail places.

I'm not needing to buy any -- thrilled I'm well stocked with jars AND lids. Probably lids for 2 yrs out, both sizes. Empty jars just waiting for a garden. 😂

There do seem to be more canners active than pre pandemic. I suspect the economy has kept a few more going than we expected to stay with it. Wonder how many are actually gardening also 🤔

Read where cane fields in sugar countries are "off" production. So, if you do much with jellies or pickling, you might want to stock the sugar now.

I bought 12 wide mouth quarts from an estate sale last Saturday. $5. It was half off that day, and all the lids were bought the day before at whatever their full price was. Thats OK.
