2dreams - Its Spring In Mississippi w/pallet bed pic

Since you live in MS are you going to plant a fall garden?

I usually plant somethings about this time of year ... and they often do far better than the spring garden did! Also I have not read your whole journal but I have two gardening tips... Soaker hoses and MULCH!

Harvest potatoes after the vines have died. Wanda said fire ants got to hers, I didn't know that and I was puzzled by why they failed.

Sorry Wanda..... :hugs

Also I lay mine out to dry for a couple days on my back porch where rain can't get to them. I will now keep them in my cold storage room for winter.

How do we know when it's time to dig up the potatoes???
We begin digging new potatoes as soon as they are big enough to work with. This is from golf ball size on up; however, if you are going to store them you need to let the vines die and dry up.

Now that I know white potatos don't do well here. (Again thinking about killing DH since he is the one who kept craming them into the potato bins). I will plant some more red potatos. I still have two garbage bags that will have red potatos in them. They are no where near ready to harvest yet. Due to the fire ant situation I think I will stick with the black contractor garbage bags. They seem to be doing better than the chicken wire bins. I can sprinkle fire ant poison around the outside of the bags and not have to worry about the poison getting into my potatos.

We always plant a fall garden. We already have our tomato cutting rooting for our fall tomatos.

Farmfresh, soaker hoses would still have to be moved in order to bush hog and cut grass. So we just use sprinklers. We started with mulch but 3 floods later I think it must be in someone elses garden down the road.

Noobie - :weee I am getting goodies. I love goodies. I can't wait until you come this way.

And to top off my week - Friday is suppose to be a paid holiday. And of course it is for everyone including me - except - I have to come to work on Friday. :he:he:he:he:he:he:he
Granted - I won't have to work all day - and also I won't have to come in at my regular early time - but....... I sure was looking forward to a lazy day. Oh well, I will just surprise the boss with a paid day off somewhere down the road.

Sorry about the taters....it is all SUCH hard work isn't it...but the taste is worth it!!
I love the tiniest red potatoes...when we harvest for market I pick out all the midgets and we eat them up fast! :)

I hate moving hoses.......rare I water anything. I figure it makes it or it doesn't..LOL

Lazy day...hmm...since when have you had a lazy day...sounds wonderful though. Even when I say a lazy day I do tons of work..HA HA...like you do I am sure!

Got a 6 day trip planned for Cape Hatteras on July 20. I can't wait. I sure will be lazy then, fishing, beaching, swimming, mini golf with Nicole...HA HA.......but of course I am going full speed to prepare to leave, and the workload when I come back will be insane, but worth it..HA HA

One of the things I dreaded most in Texas was fire ants! But one of the things I loved most - 2 complete garden seasons. I am jealous! We don't get enough sun up here to grow 'maters in autumn/winter. :( (Although our cold weather crops can grow like they are on steroids! :gig )

Have a great holiday, 2dream!

Since my DD and Emma Cate have moved out and back to our home town I don't get to see her everyday. More like once every 2 or 3 weeks. She is on the verge of crawling. Has not quite got down that hand knee coordination thing but working really hard on it. I can not believe she is already 6 months old.

I love it when they first get up from a nap and are so excited to see you! She looks so happy and healthy! She is just beautiful, darlin'! I know you miss her, my family tells me all the time how much they can't believe the kids grow in 2 or 3 weeks every time we come to visit. Goes by fast doesn't it.....before we know it they'll be in college!

Have a good holiday, honey!

I don't think I have posted this before. Emma Cate has one blue eye and one brown. It is so funny to look into those eyes. Every time I do I go woah. Its really hard to not look at one eye at a time. I am always mesmerzied and find myself just stareing at her.

When she starts school the kids are really gonna give her a hard time.

And Lori - you are right. The time just flies for us grandparents. But if my memory serves me correctly for the parents it seems to crawl at a snails pace some days. LOL
