Well, the more I think about it the more I would really like to find somewhere for her to go - preferably her real home. I printed some color signs tonight at work - I'll put them up tomorrow. I'll also stop at the house I am hopeful is hers but nobody was home today, call the animal shelter so they have a phone number if someone is looking for her, and I printed smaller notices to put up at the vets around me.
She stayed in the kennel all day and part of tonight. I let her out a couple of times and she took care of business and then was pretty easy to get her back in the kennel. Tonight when I went home for lunch and to take Buford out she had enough though. I moved the kennel inside so she wouldn't keep everyone up if she kept barking.
She IS cute though

Well..... hung up more signs, went to more houses, listed the dog as "found" on craigslist, called animal control (just to report her found, they will NEVER get her if I have a say) and started notifying vet offices - but I still have an extra yellow dog at the house. She is beautifully crate trained (must spend a lot of time there though ) but she does NOT come when you call her (I don't think knowing her name would make a difference) and she doesn't know how to walk on a leash. And I think she is in heat.
It has been a hot, sweaty morning already. At 730am while feeding the chickens, sweat was running in my eyes and beading in my hair! STUPID HUMIDITY!!!
Gardening news - none. Ran the sprinkler in the dustbowl for an hour 1/2 or so.

Al, an you post a pic of the cute little yellow dog? It might be mine. 
Sad that pup has probably only lived in a crate and never been on a walk. Being in heat probably explains why she took off. I hope you get to keep her.
I can relate to the drought and fire warnings. I hope we get some spring rains. They never came in March.

I was just going to to say that no coming when she is called and being in heat kinda explains why she was a stray.
And if no one has come looking yet.......does your HS try to reconnect people with their lost pets via phone? Ours will let you call in a description and also give your number to people missing their dog so I've been able to return dogs that way without them ever stepping foot in the HS.
I find it interesting to speculate on what environment they may have come from based on how they act.

Our abandoned / lost / stray dogs go to the county - our HS is very selective. I called the county and they put her description and my phone number down.
She came from a good home I would think - she is impeccably house / crate trained. I had her roaming hte house while I was getting ready for work and she lay by the wall out of the way just watching what I was doing. She followed me in my room and launched herself up on my bed and laid down like it was 2nd nature (Rio was less than thrilled lol ).
She definitely is not trained to come when called though. Even not knowing her name she should be easier to catch....
I don't know for a fact she is in heat, I haven't done an actual visual, but there seems to be some hint of it. I don't see any scar on her abdomen from spaying, and she is young enough it would still be obvious.
My friend is trying to talk her hubby into letting her take the dog if nobody claims her. I think legally I can't do anything with her except take her to the county until after 7 full days. By then I will probably be attached

She sounds like a very good girl. I'm so glad she is safe and sound with you instead of roaming the streets.

ETA She slipped past me into my parents yard yesterday evening, so I grabbed one of Rags' old collars - way too small but it was temporary! (she slipped out again this morning - I am just letting her run)

another ETA - one of my hens got out and, being used to Rio, went straight for the girl dog. I was yelling "Leave it!" from across the yard and hurrying over in case of an attack. The little dog went running over, buried her snout in feathers and just walked along with the hen who was oblivious. I got closer and called to her ( HAHAHA as if she would come) and then yelled "aaaaH AH!" and she walked away.

I have no idea.... I was quite confident someone would have claimed her by now. I know the county only holds strays 7 days and then on adoption row for 72 hours (very high kill shelter) unless they have room. I figure I will call them on Tuesday and see where I go from there. I have a friend at work that really wants her if nobody claims her, but she is having trouble convincing hubby. Then there is a guy at work who is crumbling and would be a good home, so I am not worried about her staying here.
(I keep going back and forth about keeping her. I would love to, but don't think it would be fair to her because Rio is MY dog - my traveling companion, walking partner, comedian, guardian etc. And he is SO loyal to me. If nothing else works out, she can certainly stay rather than go to the county though. I mean, it isn't as if life would be bad for her - she would probably be happy as a clam.. just my own "guilt issues" lol )
