Well, I'm off to figure out something for dessert... And to look through my hatchery catalogs so I can be prepared at the feed store in the morning... I need heat tolerant birds that lay large brown eggs. I really love some of the Mediterranean class birds (Brown or Red Leghorns and Anconas), but I think most of them lay white eggs. That's not a deal breaker, but most folks around here want brown eggs.

Look for Tetras!! They are a cross between Leghorn and RIR, very heat tolerant, and lay a brown (actually almost pink) egg. TSC has them exclusively though...dunno if you're going there or another feed store They're a hybrid, but they are pretty good birds to have around because they still forage really well.

yup, the mediteranians as far as im aware all lay white eggs...but are going to always be some of the best layers out there in terms fo pure breeds. (i plan on doing brown leghorns myself)
i dont understand everyoens facination with "brown eggs" it confuses me here this "brown eggs are better" thing came from?

Comets, production reds, black and red stars (all sex link layers) tend to do well in the heat
and if im remembering right new hampshires and rhode island reds tend to do ok as long as there given a shady spot
havent heard of the tetras before but id definatly check them out as most hybrids tend to do well for all climates...
