Here's one for ya:

MSG is also formed during the spray drying of milk, so it is in reduced-fat milk because spray dried milk is added to these products.

MSG Labelling
As I point out in my various workshops, the three most toxic additives in our food supply are MSG, hydrolyzed protein, and aspartame, and the first two are in all of these secret sauces with "natural flavors." Anything that you buy that says "spices" or "natural flavors" contains MSG! The industry avoids putting MSG on the label by putting MSG in spice mixes, and if the mix is less than 50% MSG, manufacturers don't have to put it on the label. You may have noticed that that phrase "No MSG" has actually disappeared. That's because MSG is in all the spice mixes. Even Bragg's "Liquid Aminos" had to take "No MSG" off their label.

Rats are made obese for studies by injecting them with MSG when they are babies. They grow up to be morbidly obese adult rats. Hmm.

Thankfully I got an early fear of MSG because my dad was horribly allergic to it.
I'm not as bad off as that, but it makes my face itch like crazy.
Picky about Chinese restaurants because of it.

ANY fast food restaurant (and a lot of regular restaurants) will have just as much MSG in their foods as a chinese restaurant... KFC being one of the worst... MSG is everywhere... it's horrible how many foods/ingredients it's in.

Here's a list of things you can't eat if you have an MSG sensitivity, they may contain enough to cause a reaction:

Doritos
Campbell's soups - all of them - based on their commitment to add "umami" (read - MSG) to their products
Pringles (the flavored varieties)
Boar's Head cold cuts and most of their hotdogs
Progresso Soups - all of them
Lipton Noodles and Sauce
Lipton Instant soup mix
Unilever or Knorr products - often used in homemade Veggie dips.
Kraft products nearly all contain some free glutamate
Gravy Master
Cup-a-soup or Cup-o-Noodles
Planters salted nuts - most of them
Accent -this is nearly pure MSG
Braggs Liquid Aminos - sold at Whole Foods
Hodgson Mill Kentucky Kernel Seasoned Flour
Tangle extract (seaweed extract) - found in sushi rolls (even at Whole Foods) Seaweed is what MSG was first isolated from.
Fish extract - made from decomposed fish protein - used now in Japanese sushi dishes - very high in free glutamate.
sausages - most supermarkets add MSG to theirs
processed cheese spread
Marmite
supermarket poultry or turkeys that are injected or "self-basting"
restaurant gravy from food service cans
flavored ramen noodles
boullion - any kind

That's why they do it - to free glutamate to act like MSG so they can declare a "clean label" while misleading the consumer.

Luckily, I cook everything as "from scratch" as I can and I'm picky about where my foods come from. I already avoid most of that.

I don't do well with MSG. Or any of the potassium preservatives. Or with anything very processed. Or...

LOL.

lol... hubby has irritable bowels, so we're also trying to cut out all the processed foods. I love bread way too much to go low/no carb, but now most of our bread is homemade :)

This is my first year having a 'real' garden... last year I just managed to feed deer some seedlings... so I'm hoping to can a TON of baby food out of the garden (our baby is due in November)... that way we can feed organically grown 'fresh' veggies from our yard.

I want to avoid formulas and fake supplements as much as humanly possible.

Hwillm, my kids' favorite summer treat as infants was homemade frozen bananas. Yes, it changes colors but let me tell you that processed jarred stuff doesn't taste like any banana I've ever had. Hmm... Maybe I should make some banana popsicles. YUM!!!

My kids LOVED anything homemade. I made our food in the blender. Also, they both had tiny pieces of diced meats that they would gum for a while (once their bodies were ready for it) but they loved it. They would have a fit if I offered them pureed meats. Thank heavens for the bullet style blender we have.

Back to MSG....powdered milk can be added to any dairy product and not labeled.....it is in skim, 1%, and 2% milk to give it "mouth feel" and it is in other "low fat" dairy products to thicken them up. Not labeled.
