we spent some time around dinner watching the purple martins flying circles around the back yard. there was absolutely no breeze so they were flying exactly as they wished without any outside influences other than the desire to get some bugs or perhaps for the fun of it. i'm not super sure about what exactly they were doing other than i could see them flying circles for about 40 minutes.

perhaps they were getting the bees that were visiting all the flowers and the bird baths but i'm not sure.

On second cup of coffee, then get dressed, feed/water sheep, turn them and dogs out on this tiny pasture. Then to the farm to work! I’m starting to feel the effects of 2 weeks of fencing, climbing up and down ladders, work, work, work! I start out tired, end the day more tired and wake up at weird hours because I can’t turn my brain off.

Needing to do some outside work and gardening today while it is still cool. We are heading into another high heat week, in the 90s, it is August and we are usually hot and dry, though I don't think we can afford the dry part this year. My youngest turns 8 tomorrow and she has requested to go to our town's pool and splash pad-boring for me but fun for her and then she wants to go to this local animal farm sanctuary-they have a sheep named Oliver that she is in love with.

What I can’t get done in August can just wait until I recouperate from surgery. I have to finish taping and floating, sand, then I’m HIRING a guy to spray ceilings and walls with Kilz. A friend is coming to help with texturing. Then I’ll roll out paint. Trim can wait until I’m bored after surgery. I have a long span of wire to put up for the sheep and dogs, put up cow panel night pens, and I can move sheep and dogs. Not even going to try to get everything moved.

mental health days off are allowed. check the weather forecast for the hottest day coming and take that day off. even if it means you are sitting there staring at the walls until you find something else more gentle on the body to do. are there any light tasks you can do inside for the day? sorting through small boxes of things? etc?

no need to make yourself sick or perhaps to be too injured to reach your other goals.

when it gets so hot i'd be melting.

Don’t want you to melt! LOL I work outside in the mornings, go in the house and work in the afternoons.

I started whitewashing my barn interior yesterday. I'm so over the mess. I know it won't last, but it sure makes me feel better. I plan to enlist kids' help.

But other tasks are calling. I don' wanna. If I hurry, I might be able to whitewash.

New guy is pouting -- in his shed! He is not sure about where he is or why 🙄. Eating, drinking, eliminating just fine......probably tired. He was dewormed day before I picked him up, penned the day of, a long ride on a hot day, got out of trailer at a place he didn't know. Yeah, he's hesitant. This afternoon he did make some vocals, right after he got more hay and feed. So, maybe tomorrow he will be social.... 🤣until then.....

I am glad he got wormed right before pick up... I think that is such an important thing to do!!!

That's just a cattle panel to keep him contained until he knows he's moved. The shed is 10x24 total, couple boards and 2x4 fence divide it. Easy to remove if needed. Each side has a pasture of its own. Right now, his neighbor is a pair of cream legbars chickens. Two old mini mares are eating pasture on that side..an acre? He has about 1/2 acre his side. Goats only use shelter for shade or rain. Except at night, they like to go in and sleep close.🤭. So, 4-5 are fine in there.

This is pasture for that shed, you see on right. Yes, hot wire on inside of the wood! One day I'll replace it all with goat wire & t-posts. Not this week. 🤣🤣. Other 3 sides are done already.
