I read that if your okra does not produce, whip it with a limber switch. Or just pull off the lower leaves, leaving those at the crown. I employed the latter and stripped leaves off. The okra got busy and started producing.

I did not know that - thanks! Whip it, whip it good :)

Dang - what are you some kind of garden scientist experimentalist seed producer? I LOVE it! Those peppers are awesome - and "legs" are cool and kinda creepy at the same time!

I like crossing heirlooms, it's kind of fun to see what happens when you plant the seeds the next year. Sometime it's a bomb, sometimes it's good.

Sweet corn has woken up and looking great now after a side dress of ammonia nitrate.

Should be eating/freezing corn on the cob in about 3 weeks :)

DGD is lovely! She likes the flowers...:love

I've pretty much given up on my garden. Between work & too much rain, I have a pasture again. :D Will till and plant for Fall stuff. NEXT year I want/plan to be home more & do better.

So, what's wrong with a few stripes in the peppers? If the taste good & do what you want, color isn't important.

You know, I've had people buy mini horses from me BECAUSE of the color, alone. Another with better conformation was passed because of color. $$in my pocket but, their loss. :D So consider if all else with those peppers is "ok".

My summer garden in the valley is looking pretty good all things considering... It didn't come easy this year that's for sure. I'm gonna sow fall cabbage, broccoli, califlower & brussel sprouts tomorrow.

Looks like smut - but don't feed it all to the chickens! It's a delicacy....I've eaten it and it's GOOD! It's a fungus - cousin to a mushroom I guess. It's been a long time, but I think I sautéed it with some butter and garlic just to taste it. I'd eat it again if I had some! Google has recipes.
