I sent it to DH to watch. I am a disaster when it comes to installing...anything.
 
This sounds like a viable option for people that butcher their own meat. I would think that a large family or close neighbor/friends could go in together to make this a better deal.
 
I think so too! I've got an 8 x 8 storage shed....it would definitely need some insulation and modification...but it's a possibility. I'm gonna discuss it with my neighbor...
 
Decided to do an experiment. I've mentioned my problems with 'killer compost and murderous mulch' so...

I took 4 six pack seed starters. One is a control and I used pure Miracle Gro potting soil in it. (DH bought it - I wouldn't have picked that brand because of the fertilizers they use...ugh) But it's what I had so I used it.

The second one has pure clay soil from my former gardening spot that got contaminated with the sprayed hay.

The third six pack has MG potting soil mixed with aged manure/dirt from the barn. (I'm trying that to see if my animals manure is also contaminated)

The fourth six pack is pure potting soil, but I used scissors and chopped some of the sprayed hay and used it as mulch on top of the soil.

In each six pack I planted 3 bean seeds and 3 pea seeds. It got a little cool a couple nights ago so the beans may not germinate at all.... but the peas should be ok.

I'm going to see if there is any evidence of herbicide damage if any of the plants actually grow!

Side note- I'm a little depressed that you are able to start plants already. Lol
 
The only meat grinder I ever used was an old-fashioned metal one that you screwed in place on the table/shelf and turned the handle until your arms was about ready to drop off. We didn't use it often.

That cool room/hanging room sounds like a wonderful thing to have! If you plan to butcher fairly regularly, I'd put that and a meat saw on the wish list. Was thinking of something now. Does that kind neighbour have a meat saw etc? Maybe you two could share, they borrow your saw, you borrow their meat grinder.. Work together. Just a thought.
 
My neighbor is awesome about sharing. I'm not sure if he has a meat saw - I need to talk to him about that! I'm trying to remember what we used last time and I think we used our Sawzall, lol.

I've had conflicting thoughts about the cool room - only because until we retire I'm not sure it makes sense to do it now. DH and I are so tied up with out jobs and it's all we can do to keep things barely going now! He usually works a minimum of 60 hours a week. I have more free time than he does, but every day that I'm off it RAINS! And, I often work at least one Saturday a month...sometimes two. For that I get a day off during the week, which I love, but if I want to do a BIG job - like butchering - I'd be on my own.

But, after we retire - I hope we can butcher pretty much all our meat - except beef. I have no interest in raising beef.
