Excellent point, VTchicklit! I get a dreadful feeling that each side will watch our nation go down the tubes while each pointing fingers at the other. I think there are lots of great ideas and energy out there, but somebody needs to start leading, and quick!

I would like to see scholarships, grants and loan money being used to train people as non-specialised doctors and nurses and other professions that are in short supply.
I would cap the number of attornies that can be admitted to the bar and I would not have any govenment funding go to training more of them.
I would insist that news reporters report the facts if they want to call it news- otherwise it should be labled as opinion and only opinion before published or broadcast.
I would like zoning regulations and laws to support a decient environment to raise children. In otherwords, have small parks for kids to play in close to their houses and make safety in these parks a priority. In otherwords if any adults was to frequent or camp in them or do drug dealing in them, it is an additional jail time offense. Same for schools.
I would like to establish govenment spending priorities as
1) fire and safety
2) infrastructure maintanence (plan for future) on roads, utilities etc
3)regulations for health issues- such as food and facility inspectors, untility ispecters, evironmental inspectors,etc and full funding to make it possible to do these things.
5) other priorities as need
Also any law enacted, must include funding, state a purpose of the law and put a review date on the law to see is it is effective- if not effective, eliminate it or re-tool it to work within the funding specified. If it demands compliance, then the law must fund the things needed to enforce compliance on all equally. And, if a law has not been enforced in 10 years despite violations of it, it sunsets out of existance.
I would like corporations only being able to up to 50% of the shares of the company to the general public - the owners of the remaining 50% are to be considered personally legally responsible for the liablity incurred by the company. Own a part of the 50% original company, you will lose your own personal assets (and assets given to others
within a certain period) to cover the cost for your behavior.
Attornies should never be able to have a fee paid on punitive damages (or any non-actual damage) but those should go to a goverment held trust fund to be spent on insuring the damage does not occur in the future.
Congressmen and Senators should be required to attend a two week camp the purpose of which is to remind them personally what is immoral and make sure they do not confuse the power of their position with their own person.

I agree with your post Pioneergirl--
take care of our country's people first, then help others second....then we could do a better job at it also.
I also would like spending under real control....real control. Not just millions and billions thrown at problems and no one is accountable for where those budgets go....real financial control for the country. Someone to truly be accountable for our country's money when projects etc. are developed.

Ok, I am past the boiling point because one of my kids has made me very very MAD.....so I am going to spout off a bit on this topic just to help get rid of my frustrations.
As far as I know, Michigan does not make their prisoners work. and they should. and for all the serial killers, rapists, child molesters- either kill them or put them on an island and let them kill each other. No parole and the death penalty would help people see that crime does not pay
Yes our govt should be fiscally responsible for our country. and we should be fiscally responsible for ourselves. if we cant afford something then we shouldnt attempt to buy it, just because the bank will give us a loan doesnt mean we should take it. Learn to tell yourselves no, how cn we teach our children self control if we dont have it ourselves. How can we expect the govt to have self control when we have given them more then they deserve as far as our rights go.
