Don't know what kind you'd have in Ireland. I haven't studied the trees there.

Its been a while since my forester classes but If I recall correctly, I think cherry seeds need some kind of acid soak in order to geminate. That's why you see a lot of them pop up along fence lines. Birds eat the cherry and sit on the fence, poop out the seed. I reckon going through a chicken would work also.

You got me thinking now, that is something I can try as well! Apples grow very here, there are apples trees all over in people's yards, etc.
