HELP! What is Cilantro?

G'day ,saw this ingredient in a relish recipe,can anybody help?

I'm sure someone up there will know,regards.........T.O.R.............

It is a green herb used often in Mexican cooking.

The seed it produces is coriander, but the green herb has a much different flavor.

Here in the US coriander is the seed of cilantro, and cilantro is the leaf. The two parts of the plant have a VERY different flavor.

I'm one of those who thinks that cilantro tastes like a very strong industrial cleaning fluid. I use parsley instead in any recipe calling for cilantro. But apparently it is a very popular herb.... lots of people love it.

I think it's used in some Italian dishes, too. My SIL loves it.

Yeah, I'm one of those people that LOVE cilantro! Never thought of substituting parsley, for my friends that don't enjoy it as much as I do...

Cilantro is DELICIOUS....but only to those with a certain gene. I am lucky enough to have the "cilantro = good" gene. My hubby has the "cilantro tastes like soap!!!" gene

As Free said, if you can't get cilantro, try using regular parsley.

They often have dried cilantro at the grocery store, but the flavor of dried is pretty pathetic.

I am another that LOVES fresh Cilantro.
I have to agree that the flavor of the stuff they call Cilantro in the store is pretty bland compared to fresh.
