We are capable of flipping a switch to become self sufficient if things got that bad.

We live paycheck to paycheck already. Have one neighbor who fixes cars, one who raises sheep for meat, one with pigs, we raise our own beef, have chickens...oh and grow corn and wheat. Other neighbors do dairy and grow other grain crops. We all would be able to keep each other alive :) I hate banks anyways, I tend to keep my money in various hiding places...call me paranoid.
I have been thinking about "keeping money in various hiding places" lately...can you guys give me any ideas? If I bury it --what do I bury it in? If I hide it--do I put it in a fireproof container? :idunno
There was much discussion on this during the Y2K build up.
The general consensus was to collect the pre-magnetic strip bills for stashing because they couldn't be located with a metal detector or satellite. Ya gotta admire the conspiracy theory folks for considering all possibilities.
Place the stash in a plastic air tight food storage container such as those sold for long term grain storage. Again for detection reasons.
Bury at night.

Snopes debunked the strip theory, thus eliminating that step:

Just make sure it's not too much money. That one guy just got out of the pokey for having 75k in his freezer.
Huh?
There were 2 Alaska state legislators that got busted for taking bribes from oil companies to lower taxes on oil production in Ak. The FBI found 75k in the home freezer of one of the suspects. They are getting released on a prosecution technicality.

Thanks Sylvie! Great article!

To resurrect this thread.

The ICE had "suspicious trades" Friday so they suspended all trades over a set amount. They just cancelled others that had already taken place.

Since these trades were all currency trades It caught my attention, but no one seems to notice. Am I being paranoid or does this sound like two different big powers strugglling with currency manipulation??

It would have been an extremely incompetent attempt if was caught by immediately by the exchange officials- it was brought to the attemtion of the company and they withdrew the purchases rather than explain how they were valid. Like sneaking down the highway in a Boeing 747.
Ice (not knowledgable enough to know but looked it up) is a private company trading in futures. Not a government agency of anyone's. I think- finance things give me a headache.

It is a private company, but so is the FED.

The movement was sloppy at best, but too much in one shot the amount of money it would take is staggering.

I'm just sayin'...........
I dont know why anyone would put money in stocks. This system is on the way out, and even if its not, we are in for very poor times for years to come. There is no escaping this. People need to put their money into supplies NOW. There is not much time to put it off.
