indian Corn

Count your lucky stars! You totally have flour corn!

Too cool thanks BMI was just reading up on flour corn on the Google machine. I guess it's not grown much anymore and was used mainly grew by Indians and ground into flour. I eat a few more kernels and I take back my first comment. it tastes rather unique vaguely sweet taste. You would expect it to taste like corn, but it really doesn't.

I have some Painted Mountain corn seed. It tassels in 40 days. It also is a flour corn and makes a bluish corn bread. Do you have any kind of grain mill?

No grain mill but i sowed a 25' x 50' section of this Indian flour corn. If it makes I suspect a grain mill will be in my future.

Does this Indian flour corn make white flour? That's the color of the inside of the kernels. I suspose it would be different cooking with it vers regular store bought flour like gold medal hu?

We grew a variety of the Indian corn in S.A. and I used to grind it up in a meat grinder for the smaller chickens and chicks as a treat. It looked so pretty! I'd love to see the flour if anyone makes some soon, or has a pic.

CrealCritter, thanks! Let me know, if it's not too expensive. I would love to grow some of that again. Kinda wish I brought some seeds with from S.A. but things were so nuts pre-move, I forgot a lot of stuff.

It makes a light bluish meal and cornbread. I guess you could sift out the outer colored part of the kernel. I picked out red kernels, got a pinkish flour and still got a bluish cornbread!

Here's a pic of my little Indian flour corn patch. It's intentionally 2 weeks behind my sweet corn patch to hopefully eliminate the possibility of crossover.

Ok to make matters easier I removed the kernels off the cobs by hand. Since most everyone likes the various shades of red and purple - I have them in a separate baggie

Red and purple 1lb 6 oz per our kitchen scale.

I'll go and get some small padded envelopes this evening and send a little under 13 ounces of each to you. So you will receive 2 padded envelopes from me.

So far I have:
Sumi
Frustratedearthmother
Milkmansdauguter - but she already picked her's out when we met.

Is there anyone else that would like some of this Indian Flour Corn? I think I have enough for just one more person.

Thanks
