I read that red maple is poisonous to goats. After I planted some of course. I don't know if they meant bark or leaves. 
Some other maples are not.
But I've also seen people describe their goats eating things that are on the poisonous list and they seem to be fine. I don't really get that.
It sounds like it would be discouraging to have things wash away in floods Java. I hope that doesn't happen again!

 It is now reached the grand height of maybe three and a half feet tall but our snow is about three feet deep there, it is by the side of the road. It was "sugar maple" though....
