DD2 decided she wanted short sleeves! So I just tidied up and finished them… and made a matching hat…

and I just pulled this off the loom, my first attempt at weaving. I don’t know what it is, it’s just random weaving 😂 but now I feel like I can tackle an actual project, and I know what I need to work on (like my wonky edges!) oh, the warp, the yarn you put on the loom first, is commercial yarn, but the weft, all the colored yarn you weave with, is all hand spun by me

Pygora- a cross between a Pygmy and angora goat. They’re adorable!

Pluck- meaning you can pluck the fiber out by hand instead of having to shear (which is kind of nice but also kind of annoying because it isn’t a nice tidy once a year event to get said fiber)

Roving- when wool or other fiber is processed at the mill in preparation for spinning or felting at home you get roving 1A037209-F99B-488F-A057-A69C8BF11A1C.png

There are different methods of knitting... Pick the yarn, or throw the yarn... and that Spanish method where the yarn is held/keeps tension by being passed through a pin on your chest....

Some of the methods are kinder to your fingers.

If you knit more "gently" and with more relaxed fingers.... it can be easier on the arthritis.

Also... circular needles... or different size needles and yarn can reduce the amount of weight that your hands must hold.

I had forgotten this thread! Here's my makes for this year - a hat and headband.

I started these about a decade ago! I spent waaay too much money on hand-dyed 100% superfine merino sock weight yarn. 5 skeins, about $130 all together. :hide I planned to make a scarf.

When I started knitting, the colors got murky and weird. So I knitted the sock yarn into a chunky yarn. Since it was hand-dyed, this meant knitting lengths from each skeins, mixing them up and splicing it all together. And then I didn't have enough for a scarf.

I decided to use the yarn up this year. I had enough for a hat and a headband. I used a bubble stitch on the hat forcwarmth, and a 1x1 rib on the headband so its twice as thick. They are heavy and very warm. 😍
