It snowed all morning, and still spitting a few flakes here and there. It's cold, blustery. A good day for a warm fire. I am oh so very thankful that God gave me this perfect day. It's a fantastic day to be outside enjoying my yard. No mosquitoes, no black flies. Just me and my broadfork, and 5 ducks, prepping the garden beds for planting. I could be using the Troybilt. But, what's the fun of that? It's noisy, and hard to maneuver, even in the potato/corn bed. And, the broadfork gives me a total body work out, while allowing me to listen to the subtle music around me: tree branches rubbing together, wind, and bird song, ducks muttering and exclaiming over the delights of the soil.

This is shaping up to be the best garden ever, thanks to duck and chicken power. I am encountering very few grubs, as I hand work the soil. Chickens and ducks worked the garden last fall, and the ducks are doing the "fertilize as you go" plan now.

LG I'm glad your migranes settled down. I've only had a few and they were crippling. Leave work, can't see, scared of getting somebody hurt, type of hurt. That is coming from a guy who stayed at work for another hour to finish things before getting 20 stitches in an eyebrow or getting his had crushed by a forklift mast (just a little) until they made me go to the hospital.

Or a real good one never went to sleep (except on the way home causing this) and called the boss to pick me up from the hospital the next morning. After waiting I took a cab and beat him by an hour and walked up as he called someone else to come get me.
Hope that Laugh at me makes you feel better.
Do you guys have the ability to play 174hz sinewave clearly (un distorted)? It's said to remove pain and works very well for my muscle pain. I'm curious if it might work on a headache??? I don't get headaches or I would try it myself.

I have this app on my phone, but the speaker is garbage. So I plug it in to the radio instead and play it loud enough to be undistorted background noise for about 10 minutes. In the past five or so weeks I've been trying it for muscle pain, it's worked to significantly reduce or totally eliminate my muscle pain 100% of the time. 🔊

This happened just yesterday (Friday afternoon). My wife and I were setting RR Ties for fencing. I use the bobcat to lift the RR Ties because the weigh 145 to 200 lbs. I position the bobcat and slide the RR tie off the forks and tilt it into the hole, then lift it up and end falls into the hole. I wiggle it around until it's in line and my wife holds the RR Tie in the hole ballanced with a 4' level, while I add 2 60lb bags of concrete mix.

Well one got away from me yesterday. The end didn't hit the hole and it slipped out of my hands as I was picking the end off the forks. It was falling for my wife. Somehow some super strength came over me. I don't know how, but I caught that RR Tie before it hit my wife and in what seemed to be an instant, I picked it straight up and dropped the end in the hole. Then I fell down on my butt, head spinning, heart racing, out of breath and I couldn't hear anything. I looked up at my wife and she was saying something with a look of astonishment. When my hearing came back. She said are you ok? What was that all about? Super Man! I said that was fear and adrenaline at the same time. Fear that I would hurt you and adrenaline to make sure I wouldn't.

When my heart returned to normal and my adrenaline subsided. I pulled a muscle in my weak left arm in the process. I said break time and you know what I did. 174hz and I was good to go after about 10 minutes. Now my wife has been calling me Super Man all day 😂. Little does she know, there's nothing super about old mr noassatall. I just know that if I ever hurt my wife, it would be absolutely horrible, I would feel so bad, I would cry and probably never forgive myself.

if you can give 174hz a try, you might but really surprised.

Jesus is Lord and Christ 🙏❤️🇺🇸

My grand dtr. will be staying with us from today, through Fri. AM. I intend to put her to use, helping me with this and that in the yard/garden. Projects that might keep her occupied: Digging grubs for chickens and ducks. Keeping chickens supplied with greens. Tying the raspberry canes in place. (should have been done last fall, but trellis system not installed until a couple weeks ago.) Planting cucurbits under milk jugs. Tidying the garden, filling w/b's full of rocks. Digging raspberry offsets for sale. Planting nasturtium and cucurbits in cups for sale. Potting extra tomatoes and peppers for same. I figure I just might turn her into a little market gardener by the time her parents get back!

Planted summer squash in 2 of the RB today. Ants have moved into those beds in a BIG way. So... put some permethrin in the hills with the squash seed, and mixed up some liquid ant bait. FYI, recipe below:

1/2 C. sugar
1.5 TBSP Borax
1.5 C. H20

Bring all to a boil. Place in containers. I'm reading that larvae eat solid, and ants eat liquid, so it's a good idea to put out both the dry mix powder, as well as the liquid. I've also heard of folks putting a chunk of bread into the bait station with the liquid, so you have a combination of solids and liquids for their dining satisfaction.

Oh how I love this time of year. I plant seeds, then spend days wondering if the seed is viable. Did some nasty grub invade the seed bed and devour those seeds? Did my potato chits rot? Perhaps it was too cold, and my corn or bean seeds rotted before they sprouted. Then... a warm day... followed by a tiny little crack in the soil. Then, the first identifiable sprout. YES!!!! That's a corn sprout, not an errant oat seedling! Today, I identified first potato sprouts, a good stand of pole beans, and a few corn seedlings! As usual, I have LOTS of volunteer dill seedlings. And, plenty of lemon balm, oregano, and mint. Now up to 15 basil plants from a single pot bought at the grocer. Time to get the rest of the beds planted. I've started hardening off the potted seedlings. A couple more days, and I can move them out to the tunnel, before they get their final tucking in. I have some frozen eggs that I may use under the seedlings for an extra nutrient boost. I've used up every single feed bag that was saved over the winter. (laid the bags down under the mulch. Today, Hubby and I brought back 2 barrels full of well rotted wood chips. A few red worms evident! For now, I can only get 2 barrels at a time b/c the trailer is being re-painted. But, some mulch is better than no mulch. I pulled 2 more w/b loads of rocks out of the garden. Slowly, but surely, the garden is taking shape.

We live in a state where the mosquito is the state bird, and there is an open harvest period for all other biting flies. They are great on the grill. In the name of self preservation, one can not indulge in excessive vitamin D manufacture without also becoming anemic.

This morning I've put a split pea soup in the crock pot. Using a ham bone from what has to be the tastiest ham I've ever eaten. Ducks have been out for a bit, and already decided to go "walk-a-'bout". So, when I came back from dropping Hubby off to p/u his car from mechanic, I gave the ducks a tooting horn escort across the road, and down the driveway to the back yard. They've been put into jail for the day.

This morning, DH started ripping out the plants from the front flower bed around the well. I went out and helped him after a bit. Now, at the end of the day (at least at the end of our ENERGY SUPPLY!) the bed has been stripped down, leaving a few day lilies and dianthus in place. It's ready for a thick cardboard/newspaper weed control, wood chip mulch, and replanting. I have plenty of options to give that bed a face lift!

This job being done was a huge bonus. Because this dear man is ABSOLUTELY not a gardener. For him to take on this task was an ultimate love gift.

A bonus from that morning's labor: A nice bouquet of Iris and Lupine now graces the kitchen table. A neighbor who was out walking when DH started the project saw what he was doing... she went home and brought back her car so she could take a lot of the lupine and other plants home to plant in her own gardens.
