Milk Goat - crash course needed!

You're too kind, I did't do much - my hubby did most of the work, I helped when needed and did the sanding and such.

I hope it WORKS thats the biggest thing, I think it would have been better if the heck piece that moved would have been on the right side (facing it) its on the left side where the bar is on that side, ad I'm not sure if that will make it more difficult for Molly to get out.

We'll see tonight!

(we had to staple the mat on it as that door surface was too slick, I can pull the mat off or just throw water and bleach on it if needed)

One question for you goat people. I visited a gal once and she had a milking stand. But she had a solid back on it. She also had the platform a bit over sized. She sat next to the goat with her should kinda pushing on the goat, facing backward. She said it worked great for her. But she also had Kinder goats. Could you do this with big goats????

Just thinking about goat stuff.

Molly is pooping funny!!!!!

Still solid, but it looks like a bunch of little pellet poops are stuck together.



We have closed off the pasture where the green grass is, I hope we didn't overdo it too much.

She gave an entire pint this morning, more than double what we got at previous milkings!

Please tell me if there is anything I can do or just leave her eating the plain hay.

Donki did that for a while when she first came home. I gave her less grain and some whey per Free's suggestion.

My family used to enjoy this came when I was a kid! People always picked the goat's milk as the best, saying the cow's milk had a chemical aftertaste....and that was back in the late 70's!

I did it to my son this morning, I told him I'd give him a buck if he could pick the goats milk cup!
When I asked him which was the goats milk, he picked the cow, and I said NOPE then he picked the mixed cup!

He didn't get a buck!

I'd have offered a doe instead...

Wow! you did a GREAT job on the milk stand!!! and dont worry too much about the clumpy poop.. dry hay should do the trick. you can give her hay before she heads out on adventures to green grass. but if it keeps up then you can take action

I really love the milking stand that you made! It looks really nice and should last for years of good service!

Here is a TOTALLY newbie question. I have never milked anything but a horse (of all things) and that was for colostrum and later for a cup or two to drink just to try it. Why is it that milking stands always seem to be made so that the milker sits sideways? I have a lousy back and just can't imagine having to sit and twist and milk twice a day. Why aren't milking stands made a bit taller with a regular chair like seat for the milker? It seems like that would be so much more comfortable over the long haul.

We had to adjust ours too because Donki would pull her head right out. I don't think it would be a problem now since she's so into her food now that she's settled in, but it was when she wasn't so into standing and being milked!

honestly, its just easier. i've tired to milk facing but its a weird angle and my arms are too short.
