Needing some encouragement - butchering chickens this weekend

Just wanted to pass along a big thanks to all of you. I'm more of a browser than a poster but your encouragement certainly helped us get this task accomplished. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it'd be but damn, I can't wait to build a tub style plucker. That, to me, was the worst part of the operation. I can certainly see some cornish crosses or the like in our crystal ball. So, thanks!

That was the consensus we came to, too. Did you use any kind of plucking device? DH used these directions to put one together using a drill: http://www.homesteadingtoday.com/showthread.php?t=130787. We still would like to build a tub-style plucker, but this helped speed up the process.

That's the exact same plucker we have, it worked relatively well--for all but two ducks. it will still be getting a workout with nine old hens and 25 meat birds left to go.
