We also have the 'helpful' neighbor. Sigh. He mowed down a bunch of our little cedars, too. I just asked him not to help out when we weren't home - he seemed genuinely surprised that I wasn't all cheerful about him mowing. But I was polite....until I got back in the house and he couldn't hear me. I had to remind myself that he meant well.

The next year, he helped out by spraying Roundup on all the underbrush by the creek on MY side. This time I yelled that if he did something like that again, I'd kick his a$$. I said it kind of jokingly, but he knew I meant it.

We're still friends.

Won't that hay grow back? Ya, you lost this cutting and it sucks, but don't you get three cuttings a year from it?

I paid $6.50 a bale last year and I shudder to think what it will be this year.....even the loss of one cutting on a small area is a big financial loss....especially when one does not work outside the home so can't just go buy the hay instead.

You are so right Free! And First Cutting hay usually brings the best prices.

Do you buy your bales a few at a time for $6.50 or is this a "truck load" price? I am always amazed at how hay prices vary around the country.

in my area good first cut hay is bringing about $10 a bale ($8-$9 is about the bulk price)
junk hay from the local home/garden/"farm" store is also going for $8-$10 a bale (and its horrible...)

even straw is $6-$8 a bale

you yeah...id bill him for aproximate bales you lost at current fiar market value.

That was for a load of 80 bales delivered. Not loaded in the barn, though. Dumped on my driveway and wheelbarrowed back to the barn 3 bales at a time. Ahh, life in the suburbs!

Pinkfox, I hope that is just for your part of CT!!! Thank goodness for the sale of 8 kids so far!

Oh, that's awful! Alfalfa is expensive, too. I would at LEAST present him with a bill for the number of bales you would have cut off it. It may be one way to get his attention.

But at the same time, I sure wish my neighbor would MOW HIS YARD more than 1 time a year. :/

Maybe she went over to discuss the hay issue with the neighbor.......should we go see how it is going? Looks over the fence, doesn't see OFG anywhere around, but I do notice that the AX is missing............
