wow what a last couple of days.. there's too much to catch up on so we'll just fast forward to today
today thats gonna be 95* AGAIN and hotter than heck with the humidity. if we can make it to monday we all might live.
but the last of the MeatBalls arent - provided we can get out there before the thermometer actually melts.... we need to get them into those chickens into the fridge as soon as possible. they are HUGE...and heaven knows that fat meats cant take the heat.
today i took The Mob outside for the first time. this is our used to be 18 now there at 15 chicks that hatched one day at a time. there are some spectacular chicks! wow - beauties for sure. and they were terrified of The Great Wide Open. but now they are kinda pecking around.
i actually had to scoop them up in a bucket to get them outside. it worked.
the ducklings are a scream - they graduated to deeper water and have been divin' and splishin' and splashin' all around. momma duck took them to the lower goat yard yesterday. all but one. he screamed and screamed and screamed. i carried him around until i found the rest of the herd. it was pretty cute. they continue to be my milking buddies and all peep around and stop their little webbed feet until i give them little sips of milk.
the canning continues...i've gotten some great deals lately in addition to our own stuff. i'm still hoping for another flush of peppers but with my luck this 100*-ish is gonna cause THESE blooms to fall off also. grrr......
thats the word here.
oh...and we have another cat. The Big Man fished her out of a dumpster - so she was free...except for the $135 she's already cost. the Not So Great Vet and i squared off over how old she is. i said 4 to 6 months, he said "under a year" and i'm not sure why he wanted to quibble over that other than he didnt cotton to well to my amateur assessment.
anyway, the only reason why we took her to that guy was because we had to immediately test her for all the cat diseases lest she be toxic to our incredibly Insane Cat Posse... and couldnt get into our Very Good Vet yesterday on such short notice. she passed with flying colors, was christened, and given a lot of painful shots for which she repaid me by pooping all over me and the carrier on the way home.
i'm somewhere between "for the love of pete....." and "whats one more?" however she will join the outside Barncat Department and will intern under Shine King of Barncats. i expect her to Exceed or Meet Expectations in what i'm sure will be a long and glorious rat-catching career here on the farm. we welcome Scruff to our organization and will be getting a nameplate made for her cubicle.
