oh that vendor is a user and taker from life...not a giver at all. worst kind...out for themself and to make a buck and be in the way of true hardworking people.

UGH

sometimes you just want to smack them...LOL

I hear ya on the dog stuff. I sell sausage and pork chops. I carry big coolers to the market. Dogs must be on leash of course, BUT, the lady vendor selling plants next to me assumes her pooch is above this....well I unload the truck, turn around and that pooch is sniffing my coolers.

OH NO WAY BIG TIME! I don't let anything near my coolers or in the garage where my refrigs. etc. are. I am a no animal by my food freak!

I shoo'd the mutt away and get that dirty look and she says, oh he won't bite....I said, it has nothing to do with a bite, I want that dog away from my meat coolers. I won't stand for that.....well of course "the look" again...HA HA

She puts the muttley in a chair and says "stay"---does it, NO......back to my coolers. I said, listen, I ain't saying this again, tie it up or we are going to war....well the huff, puff, etc. and yes, she tied him up finally to the chair........BUT when Kevin the agri. agent got there I explained the situation and he chatted with her and said to keep it tied....market rules.

SO anyway......I got off track on dogs and the market..HA HA HA

Your cheating vendor is not a true farmer or producer of anything....just a con artist making a buck. Most of us farmers are so proud to chat about our farms and hard work and love to pass on the info of how we do it, what our animals are like, etc......

I would think that the market would do something to discourage that kind of cheating as it really cheapens the whole experience for customers AND vendors.

And FarmerChick- I hear ya on the dogs. NO WAY would I put up with that. You have to look out for your product. It's business plain and simple.

oh yes business plan and simple.

I tell everyone...yes you love your dog, I sure as heck don't! HA HA...they don't like hearing that but too bad.

And I have that, no pets near food type mentality. It just turns my gut....just the way I am! I sure don't want to pull sausage out of a cooler that has a dog sniffing it and hand it to a customer. That doesn't wash with me.

AH--here I go again....just icky to me and I can't stand it..LOL

I hear ya Morel!

every dog has its place...LOL

one funny story was my Dad went to a super fancy party....finished basement etc....CEO of a company and all that....

well they had a long line of tables piled high with turkey, ham, duck, etc. and all delish sides. All catered for Christmas......

Dad and his buddy went downstairs to check out the spread and the ladies cat was on the table licking the turkey..........

hmmm...Dad said he didn't eat anything off that table. And the other guy told his wife not to eat anything that wasn't in a covered dish...HA HA HA

I just cringe when I know about stories like that.

EEEwwww....

You know, I just don't think dogs belong at a farmer's market, not only for the food issue but also for the safety issue.
I love dogs and I have 5 but I don't treat them like they are humans with all the same rights as people and bring them everywhere with me.
I don't like to be walking around a famer's market with my children who are usually munching on something from the market, and a young child with food in their hand is at the eye level (and sharp teeth level)of a dog.
I love dogs but I do not trust any dog period. They are animals and as such are unpredictable.
It also annoys me when people bring their dogs to places like this because they assume everyone will be as happy and thrilled with their dog as they are. They act like they are being so nice to show us their dogs.
I hate that so many dog owners don't get that and think oh my
Muffy would never hurt a fly, bull.
Thats what I was talking about at that market I was at and the dogs went after each other and the owners were freaking out trying to break it up.
Someone could have gotten seriously hurt that day.
I personally would not want the responsibility of that.
I think dogs are alot like kids in the respect that they can get overstimulated by noise, crowds, food and the smell of all that food that they can't have can drive a nuts and make them act out of character and maybe lunge for something out of a kid's hand or something.
I hate when someone brings their dogs to something like this and one of my kids wants to of course go over and see the doggie, I am always telling them that you can't run over to a strange dog since you don't know how they will reacct.
I have actually had people say to the kids, oh don't pet the dog he is to excited today and might nip, or this dog is old and does not tolerate kids so don't get to close etc.
What the h**l are these people doing bringing their nasty dogs to a public place full of kids.

I don't know if it is a state law here, or maybe just market policy, but the two markets we go to are NO DOGS ALLOWED. And it is ENFORCED. I've seen people carrying dogs Paris Hilton style, and they've been escorted out!

Makes sense to me but I'm sure not all agree.

Now that is precious...you knew...no one else did.

hey what you don't know won't harm you! :)

LOL-LOL

oh I hit the dollar store after dropping Nicole off to pick up her few stocking items...2 seconds in and out and cheap....But yea there was a little cute dog being carried by a lady.

WHAT! Dogs aren't allowed in dollar general.....why is it there. I just got the willies knowing that dog was in there. I know some people think they are handbags, but geez, how much can they carry for you..HA HA...and he sure wasn't a service dog.

I don't know...I don't get it at all. I know they love them but it shows no consideration for others at all.

oh well...this life has gone to the dogs--:th

Been there! Seen it all. That's why I couldn't believe someone would suggest that I am "unethical"!!! Never been accused of that before.... ;) Matter of fact, most folks find me brutally honest...and hope they don't find me! :D
:/
I apologize if you think I called you unethical. I said it was a matter of ethics, and everyone has their own code by which they adhere to. I personally could not do it, as I said. I will slop my pigs--if I do sell them, the purchasers will be made known that they were slopped.

I have never been to sale barn, so I would not know that the purchasers are aware that anything goes, when buying a sale pig. but you've been there and see it all. I have not, so therefore I simply questioned the fact that you would sell pigs without concern about the people buying them--that's all.

I am not against your endeavour, and if that is how sale barns operate--then more power to you.
