Punkins' world....SUNSHINE, seeds and no more drought!

I did get a good price for that quilt. I have about $30 in it, including the quilting charge. He gave me $80 :ep

They still want another one, but I cannot find more material anywhere. I still have some emails out about it. If I can't find it, I'm going to email them some pics of alternative cow fabric prints.

This is what we woke up to this morning:

This is quite early in the season for us.

It is supposed to be in the mid 20s tonight. I'm sure there will be lots of black ice out there.

That is soooo cute. I love the cows. Great job. I hope you find the fabric!!!!

I think I need to do some sewing this week. I got the bug. :thumbsup

Yea, no yellow snow for me, lol.

It's come and gone and that's the way I like it.

I only ventured out long enough to take the pictures. ;)

I hope everyone is well.

I just haven't taken the time to check in lately. Computer crashed about a week before Christmas. It was Geeked at Best Buy when we bought it, so we took it back to them. Ricky fixed it while we waited for free! A recovery is about $150, so I was very, very happy not to have to pay anything. He was a good Santa. I had to reload everything plus got the best virus protection they offered.

Christmas was wonderful. I got a really cool 1940'ish cutter made by John Deere. (I'll post pics soon.) All the parts are there and it's in great shape. Someone took it to a metal yard for scrap, if you can believe that.

We tried not to spend a whole lot of money on gifts this year. We did buy alot, but everything we bought was a great bargin (except for DS' racing boots $$). We are trying to get stuff together for the outdoor kitchen we want to build in the spring. So far we have the stone foundation (bought very cheaply as overstock from a restaurant build), the gas grill insert (1/2 price at Lowe's) and some other odds 'n ends.

I gotta start ordering seeds soon for the greenhouse. Peppers need to be started around the middle of January. They are so fussy and slow to germinate. Last year, every nursery in the county ran out of green peppers. I'm going to start them inside this year, so I won't have to heat the greenhouse just for them.

Got your hog jowls and black eyed peas yet?

WHAT?!!

Don'tcha mean sauerkraut and pork ribs?????

:gig

I'll never forget, first year in Tennessee, they all thought we "yankees" were NUTS eating sauerkraut and pork for New Years! E's boss at the time said, "hog jowls and black eyed peas!"

I say, pass the 'taters and 'kraut, but I do enjoy collard greens on the side!!

Hey, punkin, do you have any good places to get some boiled peanuts??? :drool

I'm gonna have to see if I can find the lye.......hmmmmm.
:frow :frow

I suddenly remembered some relations from my childhood remarking on how they had made lye (as the first step to making soap) during the German occupation of the island of Jersey during World War II. So I did a bit of research & came up with this:

http://www.thefarm.org/charities/i4at/surv/soapmake.htm *** if you scroll down a bit you will find the lye-preparation info.

http://www.countryfarm-lifestyles.com/make-lye.html

http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/soapmakingsafety/tp/Making-Lye-from-Wood-Ashes.htm

I have even found a video of a lady explaining the process. :bow

But I think you can also use seaweed as well as ashes ( I think my relations did this).

Hope this helps if tou can't find a source of lye locally (0r wan't to he truly SS...!! :D
