I ordered a few of my milk cow supplies from Lehmans Monday.

I purchased:
12 Wide Mouth Half Gallon Jars
16 Widemouth Plastic Caps (the 4 extra is for the few 1/2 gallon jars I have here)
4 oz. stick butter mold
2 Boxes of 100 filters for my strainer

It should be here tomorrow :D

What kind of filters/strainer?

I was told I could use coffee filters- just build a 'sandwich' with a coffee filter, washable aquarium filter, another coffee filter. I have a jelly strainer that I thought would hold the sandwich well and fit good over the 1/2 gallon jar.

What do you think???

We have an antique strainer thats been in the family for years, the filters are basic. Im pretty sure you can use coffee filters.....Now I dont know about that setup, I havent even got the cow yet

My Dad gave me a quick 'general rigging to get by 101' about it after we got Ice Cream. I guess he'd know- we milked Holstein's until I left home. He's just not very helpful as to the nitty-gritty or helpful in general - I usually get a lot of "You were there, don't you remember how it was done?" :p

My old neighbor offered me an antique separator- that he had been using as a flower pot for over a decade. I took a pass on it. I remember us getting an antique separator when I was a kid- we messed with it and messed with it, never got it t work right. Just easier to let it set in the fridge a bit! :/

We got the 'cow', but she won't even be close to in milk until next Spring! :th

Yeah, my Dad just wanted to speed the process. It seemed like a great idea too - separate and strain all at once. Oh well. Not sure why he wanted it separated - my stepmother refused to make butter and usually threw the cream out :ep She was not right in the head :D
