We have Goats

Dear Buffmeister buff,

Goats are a royal pain in the tuckus. I told you that :P I'm sorry you are learning this from experience now. They are difficult to control, because they are pig headed stubborn beasts. However, they can be a lot of fun too, once they rust you and you have everything set up correctly and going somewhat smoothly, but it takes time. Hang in there little bro!

I know... :P I tried this mornings milk and actually it wasn't that bad but I haven't a clue where she has been. So it will probably taste better as we go on with it. I am going to set milking time at 7:30 in the morning. I will begin separating the doeling tomorrow evening.

I have set a standard for myself, if this is not somewhat going better in a month, we are heading back to the auction and selling them.

If I had a bull dozer I would

About to go out and try it again. How much food should be brought to her?

Alright I lied. This is not even going to take a month. :/

Buffer, are you okay youngun? It just takes patience. Sorry they're giving you troubles. Goats can be really frustrating :hugs I'd take her a few cups of food and a big handful of hay for when the food is gone. They get ancy when the food is gone and they're still on the stand. Maybe you could make her stay on the stand just a bit longer and brush her and rub her a bit while talking to her so she'll get more comfortable with you. That's what i did with my nag, and it still took about a month to get her to calm in the stand and get to where she was relatively easy to milk. I am so sorry you're having issues with yours. Also, while milking, if she gets to kicking and really acting up, you can reach up and twist her ear. They hate the ears messed with, and will soon relate that aggravation of a ear twist with kicking and being a punk :P It worked for my nag. Granted, ya don't want to hurt them, well maybe you might at that moment, but you shouldn't twist really hard, just enough for them to get the hint. That's all I got little buddy. Wish I was there to help. It is easier with two people starting out. DD was my on spot ear twister for a week or so ;) Maybe you could get your sister to help? :hu

Is she friendly with you other than milking or is she kinda wild?

I read this thread to my friend that has goats, and she said if she is weary or afrade of you, you might have to spend some quality time with her. After she trusts you more she will be better. Her biggest advice... lots and lots of time and patence. If you have extra time give her treats and brush her.
