I hauled wood chips. got the former corn plot ready for black eyed peas this fall. the wife picked even more okra. we have omra and cucumbers coming out of our ears

Picked and put up the last of the sweet corn.

But when you see nothing but butts in the garden that's a good thing.

Yeah more green beans, there must have 30 gallons picked out of the three rows already this year... I'm so sick of green beans already. Sigh...

I took pictures! Rained late yesterday. Rained today. It's been 90-100 all week..mostly mid 90s...cooling to 80 at night. But with the rain things are growing. With the heat, some blossoms won't set fruit. GRASS knows no bounds!!!

As I loaded the pics to computer I was reviewing the others and wow...things sure grow fast!

These were my little volunteer plants I dug to transplant on 5/24/17...notice the little one in lower right...

check out the beans that are not quite 1/2 way up panel.

On 7/21 those beans are way up the panel...1 week! RAIN!

and this is that little squash plant from lower right of first pic.
Was 2 plants & it's a butternut -- has about 6 large squash and that many smaller. Will pick some of larger ones next week.

The pool ladder was over the fence near beginning of squash plants and I had to move it this week because it was being overtaken by the squash. Now to right of this pic.

The heat & rain ARE helping to mold the cardboard into the ground as the grass below dies out. I


My fields need to be mowed!!!!!!!!! Worked 50 hrs last week and will work about 60 this week for my two "part time" jobs. Then it will slack off again. Hope I will be able to find the gates by the time I get to mow... Yards are about the limits right now......goats helping but need about 50 more of them!

Crealbilly that is a beautiful garden!!! HUGE but a beauty.

That's the kind I'd love to have, don't need and couldn't take care of easily. LOTS of work there. But, I sure admire it!

We have an auction house here that gardeners can take produce for sale. Last week they were getting $52 a bushel for green beans. Sure saves to grow them. And your chickens love you for them.....

Gardens all look great (except mine, lol)! Mine is overtaken by weeds despite all the early mulching...argh.

An auction house for produce? What a splendid idea! I don't think I'd pay $52 dollars for a bushel of beans, but I'd sure be happy to sell 'em for that much!

My thoughts exactly! A guy with a rather large backyard garden has been taking 4-5 bushel a week lately. Nice payday! $60 for tomatoes a bushel. Okra got good $$, of course summer squash zip...LOL All reasonably easy to grow, bear well in general.

It's a large warehouse, auctions every Thur evening. Wholesale requires license & has quantity requirements. But there are a lot of melon farmers in the area.

I plan to go this week to "check it out". May get involved next year. You don't have to participate each week, or commit to much. Like -- whatever shows up gets sold.

My summer garden is only 54' x 100' not really all that big. My secret to controlling weeds - I plant twice as close as recommended.

No way I could not do it by myself so over the years we developed the gardening "Golden Rule" you pick it you weed it. Then there's the next golden rule. I plant it & you pick it - meaning it's my job to care for the garden but I rarely pick anything. Except for corn I don't mind picking corn at all. My kids all grew up helping in the garden every year so they know pretty well how to garden and how rewarding it can be.

Here's a few pictures of my 25' x 50' spring / fall garden back in May, that I sowed in late Feb. It's bare now waiting for me to get my butt out there and sow seed for fall veggies.

I like to work my spring & fall garden much more than my summer garden. I usually walk out of the summer garden drenched in sweat

Today? Nothing...

But my wife has been making zucchini bread since the first zucchinis came in a few weeks ago. I'm not bragging or nothing but her zucchini bread is so good it really should be considered illegal in all 50 states She literally takes orders for it. Bakes up a bunch of loaves and gives it away. This year she started putting chocolate chips and M&Ms for the kids in it. I like the original better with walnuts but the ladies and kids seem to prefer the chocolate kind better. I'm gonna to see if she can't do peanut butter chips in a couple for me.

I know she baked up 6 big loafs and a bunch of smaller ones today but I can only find three big loafs and a few smaller ones... Hummm I wonder where the others went? What's with all the crumbs on the table? I best clean that up before she gets wise about it hu? <Angel on right shoulder / Deamon on left shoulder> But Honestly honey - I have no idea where your zucchini bread went. Did you give it away already and don't remember? <evil snicker>
