Almost Self-Reliant
It's been there well over ten years and never has grown any suckers.Curious about Carmine Jewel, does it sucker? Would it make a nice hedge row eventually?
It has one trunk and a globe top and will reach about 6' tall. Not a good candidate for a hedge in my opinion.
Nanking cherries make an excellent edible hedge. The bad thing with the Nankings is the size of the cherry is only slightly larger than the pit and they are greatly desired by robins. On the plus side they are almost sweet and a pleasure to grab a handful to eat as you pass by.
They grow in a bush form and the seeds sprout easily. My Nanking Cherry hedge is nearing 40 years and they are about 7' tall.
