Very surprised apples are starting to size up already, it's a long time until fall.

According to Stark Bros, this is supposed to be a red delicious, thats what I purchased. If so, it's supposed to ripen 135 to 155 days after it blossoms in the spring. However It doesn't look anything like a red delicious to me. It may be a red delicious, its the first fruits from this tree. So IDK yet.

That does not look like any Red Delicious I have ever seen. Even the shape is wrong.

I know... it's more oval shaped and huge for being so early in the season.

It might be a wolf river. I'll have to wait and see.

I recall I purchased it during their $18.16 plus free shipping sale.

They aren't native here. I have on about to bloom but it needs a pollinator. Last year I got lucky and picked up a late bloomer at Home Depot and set it right next to this one.

I have a couple of others that are going to be first time bloomers this year but don't know if they will bloom in time.

The nice thing last year is that the bir4ds did not know what elderberries are and I got all of the few that were produced. I don't expect to be as lucky this year.

Lucky here because they're everywhere! So birds have a selection. Wheat will be harvested soon -- that gives the birds a better choice before elders are about ready to pick. Then, the ditch bank/roadway berries begin to dry and it'll be winter feed for them.
Peanut harvests, next; then corn; then soybean. The turkey are huge and plentiful👍 birds well fed.

Living in milder weather with crop farms has its advantages. Deer abound, too. If I hunted, meat would be plentiful.

reminds me of the first few years i planted some phlox seeds (purple, white, pink mix that i harvested from a patch along a road) that gave me some wonderful displays and then the large seeds. and then the goldfinches found them and shredded most of them. i didn't mind that at all since it still does disperse the seeds and i have plenty but it did stop my own harvest and collecting of those seeds.
