I know this isn't in keeping with the intent of the thread, but I always try to save plastic bags for re-use too. Lately I try to keep the thin plastic produce bags (the ones that are still visibly clean anyway) for storing my own garden produce in the fridge, when I can't eat it right away. I was sure running out of them though last September. I'm trying to build up a good stash this winter for use next summer.

This is something I actually did yesterday. A store by me, Shop and Save, sometimes has a take $10 off a $50 purchase. This is a savings of 20%. I try to but items on sale and stock up on them and use coupons. I am very careful to hit the $50 mark to get full advantage of the savings.

I purchased:
Canning jar lids
Toilet paper
Dried beans
Frozen Vegetables
Ice Cream
Other misc. items

To be honest, I don't all that often think about doing things to SAVE money, I mostly think of it as exercising veto over my whims to avoid WASTING money :p

In that light, I would say that today I "saved" (quote unquote) money by not buying the particular kind of bottled juice that I like and was on sale but do we really need it, no we don't; and by cutting Harry's hair myself rather than paying someone to do it; and by finding an old dishpan the right size to fix one of myhomemade chicken feeders that is just dysfunctionally shallow and gets too mcuh feed spilled out and wasted, instead of doing like a friend is always buggin' me to and buying a "real" chicken feeder.

This week (not today specifically though) we "saved" money on dinner by making a $10 pot-roast last three days, via small portions for me and soup out of it the third day.

Of course, this weekend I am *hoping* we'll get our hay delivered, and that will be well upwards of $1000, for horses that perform no useful function around here other than I like 'em :p, so, that would be I guess "wasting" money <vbg>

This week is my week of NOT going grocery shopping. I am trying to make use of what we already have.

It seems to me that I spend about the same amount at the store regardless of what is on my list, so I am trying to go every other week instead of every week.

If we run out of milk, I will go to the store with just enough cash to buy milk, or we will go a couple of days without it until it's shopping day again

Today I brought my own lunch even though I was tempted to buy the cafeteria salad which is soooo much easier and pretty tasty.
I came home and opened the electric bill. Noticed that our usage for October was down from Oct. last year. Decided to talk to the guys tonight about trying to do even better next month.
With a huge vet bill today going out for dinner tonight is out of the question. While we'll be eating out of the freezer this weekend too, We'll be doing our Friday night pizza, just at home to avoid ordering drinks and having to pay a tip. If I'd had it together better today I'd have made pizza myself but today is just not one of those days.

today I worked and will make money tomorrow. So I guess I saved money by working most of the day....instead of finding a way to spend it.

When I went to Mom and Dads I turned off the computer from this morning. Normally I leave it on all day, and turn off at night, but I figured I might as well start turning it off if I am going to be gone like 3-4 hrs. or more.

that is about it for me for today so far. won't be spending anymore money today (got gas this afternoon and filled up)--extent of money spent today.

I ate leftover chicken from last night instead of eating at a taco truck when I go to town in a little while!

Going to go to town to run errands, pay some bills, and pay for After School Care for the Littles (Cost: $700 to $1000 depending on the month. Something to consider when I'm looking towards a simpler way of life?)
