What did you do to save $ today?

I called my neighbor to inquire about his pile of pumpkins that looked neglected at the edge of his garden. He will sort out a few for pie making but says I can have the rest! Yay for the chickens (and ducks?).

I didn't go foraging over the weekend, but I ended up with pletny of rabbit food. A neighbor brought over a grocery bag of kitchen veggie scraps for them.

I'm going over to the community garden this afternoon to pick green tomatoes and "done" plants to feed to my rabbits.

I stayed home and dried more food, and cleaned my house. Cost: nothing. Paid: nothing  Oh well, I got one going for me! :lau We all know the REAL value ;)

I sure didn't save today

bought some Christmas presents for Nicole

those Leapster and cartridges are just rough on the wallet lol

but paid in cash so I guess I am doing well so far :P

hit some stocking stuffers in Big Lots and Freds, those were very reasonable priced toys

save tomorrow for sure

I needed to get more canning jars yesterday. ON my way to the hardware store a strong voice told me to go to the goodwill outlet first. So obidiently I went

I came home with 11 canning jars (quarts and pints), a 1 gallon pickle jar with the lid, 2 nice glass bottles with corks, 1 small milk bottle, a foodmill, a flour sifter, a garlic press with a cleaning tool, a set of dumpling presses with the cookbooklet, a canning funnel, a very small cast iron skillet with lid, a small pastry pan, a metal egg washing basket, mosquito netting for one of those canopy thingies, a shallow nicely made crate (perfect for moving canning jars from the canner to where I set them to cool), a box of sheet protectors, a huge roll of blue gingham ribbon, a rubbermaid bin (no lid), wire display racks (I used them to hang up the goat's water bucket and 2 feeders), a small glass candle holder, and for now I cannot remember, if there was anything else.

Guess what I paid

guess

how about $6 for the lot!!! :weee

I still went to the hardware store and bought 2 more cases of pint canning jars, but since I already got 8 quart jars at the goodwill store, I didn't need to buy quart jars right now!!!

I happened to see the foodmill at the hardware store. They wanted $29 for it new. A little elbow grease and the one I got is good as new. And probably better quality, since it is old ;)

My local Goodwill store is small and tends to not have much of a selection so I've learned to "hit it" every time I go to town (twice a week or so). Even if I'm not looking for or needing something in particular, I will still make a quick cruise through the store - especially the housewares.

Sometimes I walk out of there empty-handed but other times I do stumble across something cool I didn't realize I needed. :ya

When my kid needs something in the way of clothes (or whatever), we always check Goodwill first. Only if we can't get it there will I break down and go somewhere else.

You got some great stuff, Denise! I was going to say you spent less for all that stuff than a dozen new jars would have cost but I saw where you bought some at the hardware store anyway. :)

Last Saturday, the twice yearly community garage sale was held at the fairgrounds. I bought a stainless steel stock pot (for cheesemaking) for five bucks, a graniteware (antique) double boiler (in like new condition) for $12.00, a gallon square jar (coffee used to come in these jars and I have quite a few in different sizes which I use for my bulk foods - pasta, rice, etc.) for $2.00 and an old wide-mouth gallon milk bottle with a wire handle for $2.00 which I might actually use for milk from the goat - or I might put spaghetti noodles in it.

Love thrift stores, garage sales, etc. :weee

me&thegals, the ducks can eat the soft goo inside. A few of my ducks would nibble a little on the rind, but usually they slurp up the insides and ignore the rest.

I saved money by getting dryer balls. They had them on sale at Ross and I decided to take a chance. They work great. I was having serious static issues and considering buying fabric softener. Now I don't have to :D

Still need a new clothes line, but that wont happen until next Spring.

I made laundry detergent today. Haven't tried it out yet!

Also foraged for those rabbits again. D*mn they eat a lot of greens! I forget how calorie-dense their pellets are. I FILLED a laundry basket from the community garden, fed 1/2 of it, and then filled a bag with dandelions and clovers from our lawn.

I'm running out of money saving ideas. :(
