I took it. $6 an hour. I am sooooo gonna hate this job :hit
May I ask why? It seems like a bad situation to be so underpaid in a caregiver position. Like not a good place/situation to have resentment.

That's not even minimum wage around here.

I would have suggested at least $15/hour.... But, good for you for having the fortitude to just get a job, even a difficult one!

Minimum wage is only like $7 here..so not too far off I guess. I plan on working while I'm working. We just had a family meeting after supper and tossed around some ideas and DH and DD came up with some good ways to earn a bit extra while I am at work, like using downtime wisely to make some things to sell on Etsy and such. I know there will be a good bit of downtime while sitting with the elderly, so I guess I can make up the difference that way. I'm also going to try to write a book while I have downtime. I guess it's all in what you make it. DD and DH are very much into the idea of pulling together and keeping things going here, so I will find great comfort in knowing the house isn't gonna fall apart while I am away for several hours a day. I just hope everything works out like we want it to.

Oh and I'm only going to dislike the booty wiping. I LOVE the elderly, but I have a pretty weak stomach when it comes to bodily fluids. Other than that though, even at $6 and hour, I'm going to love the job! Old people are the COOLEST folks on the planet!!!!! They know EVERYTHING :D Can you imagine the SS discussions we could have?!?!?! These two are of the age to have lived through the Depression as young kids. We'll not be short on things to talk about ;) I don't know if the lady is very vocal, but the man I have heard stories about  He's areal yakker and sounds just like my kinda guy. He'll be there the whole time too, so, may as well chat eh?

I'm gonna make the best I can of a sorta bad situation....just hope I can handle the bad part.

I have been a caregiver for over 10 years, and in WA state we are union and I make 11.50 an hr. and I am at the top end of my company pay scale, we also get some good bennies such as med insurance that is really very good.

Wiping hinnies doesn't get any more fun over the years, but the time you get to spend with some really wonderful people far out wieghs the smelly times.

I applaud you for taking a job that is not a walk in the park to help out your family.

Give your guys credit, the house will still be standing when you get home.

Relax and have fun!
