Wax on Jelly -- yes. Most only way grands did it. Save those jar lids for veggies. :love

My chickens LOVE all those "bad spots" I cut from fruits & veggies. Hey, you got 1/2 the apple...they got half. Better than NONE. Same with many veggies....cut out the bad, use the good.

Now that this came up, of course I look at jar & lid supply at every store. Glad I don't need any....they're scarce!

I’m doing so much canning that I feel the need for more lids. They are not always in stock but I can find them

exactly! nature should get a fair share. i don't begrudge a bit of apple or some berries going to the worm farm, they turn it all into fertilizer for me anyways eventually. it is certainly much better than throwing it away to go into a landfill. while we try very hard to waste as little food as possible it still does happen here or there - better at least if it is something we've paid for that we get the most use out of it. after it gets turned into fertilizer by the worms then i can use it in the gardens and rotate plant through that area and get 3 or more years from it before needing to add more again.

what i am also glad about now is that both canning lids and jars are fully recycled here. for a while the local pick up was not taking glass any more but they have a new agreement so we can put the glass back out with the other recycle stuff. they also added back more of the other plastics back.

me too. I stocked up on jars as well.

Ditto, here as well. The minute CV hit the news, I looked at DH and said: This is not gonna be pretty. We need to stock up and prepare to hunker down. He thought I was over the top, hallucinating, crazy. Didn't take him long to come to agreement with me. No need for all the hype. But, it is what it is.

IMO, the situation is being used to topple the constitution, and push socialism. I sent hubby to p/u groceries for my parents last week. I asked him to pick up cream of chicken soup. He got THE ONLY CAN in the store. He showed a lot of pics of totally empty shelves. And, we are at a time of the year when food should be plentiful. Hang on to your hats, folks, b/c you can bet that a panic wave will hit this fall. Store shelves will be completely empty, there will be fist fights over the last bit of ANYTHING on the shelves, and the riots will continue and worsen.

I remember reading an article written by a Russian woman who managed to defect to the US years ago. She mentioned the first time she went shopping at an American grocery store, she nearly had a nervous breakdown in the toilet paper aisle because there were too many choices. In Russia when she was growing up, if you were buying toilet paper, you bought toilet paper--- there was no choice.

I think we are going to see more of what she was used to as time goes on. Perhaps not quite to the point of only one brand (of ANYTHING), but close.

What scares me is that, these shortages are being caused by people being laid off. They are collecting unemployment. What kind of taxes are we going to be seeing if this continues? The money for unemployment has to come from somewhere....

Exactly, These people who are enjoying the down time, the unemployment rates that exceed their best pay checks seem to think that money grows on trees. Wake up call: Money DOES NOT GROW ON TREES. It comes from the pockets of the working middle class.

The county my parents live in went back into lockdown. They have most of Oregons produce processors. That is where everyone is getting sick because you can't distance the people on the lines really. During the last lockdown, the stupid governor was complaining that according to the cell phone tracking people weren't staying home. I know people looked at her and went "Duh Moron". Farming community. Farm workers out in the field doing essential jobs. Most of the jobs in that area were labeled essential. Not like the big city workers in Portland.

I think the prison is one of the only places of large people contact not to get sick. My brother (and other relatives) work out there. Every day the workers are temp tested and no visitors have been allowed since March.

Unfortunately, I agree.
