We may rent a tiller, not sure of the cost. Pigs we're not set up for. We're on a limited budget and have to pick and choose projects. I would like to get the chickens in there, but need more fencing to do it

Oh fencing. One of the biggest issues and expenses to farming! I could use a whole lot more too, and a whole lot more cattle panels! But yeah.... Money.... It costs a lot!

You can put chickens in a little "chicken tractor" moveable thing each day, back to pen at night. Of course, being close to coop is pretty necessary. Maybe a friend has a tiller to loan?

Chicken tractor will be made eventually, maybe we'll set something up for new chicks in the spring until they're ready to be integrated into the flock...mmmm, now you've got me thinking. But I'll still need more fencing! And unfortunately I have no friends! Ok, not true, but we're still new to the area.
It's ok if some of these things take a bit of time. We're restricted by time and money (who isn't?) so we'll do what we can! Next October we'll be able to use my parents rototiller as well.

For next spring, at the very least I plan on using the space for squash. I've got a bunch of old hay close by I can use to mulch and help keep the weeds down, and just amend the soil where the squash seedling is planted.

Yesterday I collected and smashed the remainder or the pumpkins and stole their innards for next years seed. And pulled all the turnips. And honey got on the tractor and rolled all the leftovers under for the winter. Tomorrow I get my grow lights set up and order my seed starter mix and start cuddling up with my seed catalogs at night to plot and plan rotations for 2018. I'm so ready to enjoy the garden again!!!!

Ya, I want to make sure I don't bite off more then I can chew either (even though I want more garden!). I also think we'll be adding to our family (at least trying to) next year, so ya, might not be feeling so well next summer if we're successful!

@Wannabefree Great! Nothing gets started here until February at the earliest. The holidays are for seed catalog gazing :)

I'm not even starting tomato, etc. seeds this year (shhhh), I'm buying started plants. DH disagrees with that plan but oh well. Most everything I plan to do will be direct seeded in May-ish though.

Nothing wrong with that! I had my first the month of June and had no garden that year.
My father wants to grow my starter plants this year, which is beyond fantastic because I don't have a good set-up to do it right now. They will have to travel 5+ hours to get here...but I'm very lucky to have a Dad whose a green thumb!
