I praised my garden plants, congratulating them on producing so much food for not only us, but many other people as well. They must have liked what they heard, because they really kicked it into high gear and outdid themselves. We have all the Purple Hull peas we want, but I will continue to water, weed and pick them-to give them away. Same with green beans. The Thai #3 long beans produce until a hard killing frost. I am in that time of year that if I eat another dad-burned green bean, I'm gonna puke. So I pick and give away. I will not just walk away and let good food go to waste.

that is why i like multipurpose beans, when i'm tired of picking them i can leave the rest to go to seed and then they get used as dry beans and for giving the seeds away to other gardeners. :)

@Mini Horses pm me your address and I will send you seeds. I got them from Baker Creek 10 or 12 years ago and I don’t see the seed in their catalog any more. I grew the Kentucky Wonder beans this year for canning. My husband likes the Thai #3 beans canned, but I don’t. So I grow the Thai long beans for fresh eating and to sell or give away. They produce a LOT of food! I think next year I’ll grow a purple podded green bean for canning, to make it easier to find them in all the vines.

I just wanted to say I am thoroughly enjoying this thread, living vicariously through all of you and your canning adventures this summer.

Still stalled on the new homestead hunting. Looking forward to someday grumbling about all the tomatoes needing picked and processed.

I canned 6 pints of milk yesterday. Not that I don't have a good supply of fresh, & frozen. I just wanted to try it & know it can be done. Did 2 methods, 3 pints each. Will untap periodically and see how it works. Nothing more than emergency "who knows" supply.

Shhhh, don't tell the girls. Wouldn;'t want them to feel insufficient! I have a hard time drying 3 of them and if they hear this -- wow, may never dry off. 😁 Jan/Feb I need a milking break, even if they don't!

I've done that before.... gotta say it tastes... umm... :sick Might be ok to a baby goat? I ended up using mine for dog food and they didn't have a problem with it at all. However, in an emergency situation I'd use it and be glad to have it!

can you use it for coffee or put some sugar in it and use it for sweetened milk in recipes for baking? or is it really strange because it isn't moomoo's milk?

Well, pasteurizing has the "cooked" taste to me....very slight but there. Very cold it's more tolerable. Spoiled with that FRESH stuff!!

If you have ever tasted the cans of Carnation -- it's similar but, milder.
BUT -- for cooking, coffee/tea, etc. it's nice to have "in case". In my case, I'm rarely in this position. Definately a "see if it works" thing.

Couldn't help myself 😁
