I've tried sweet potato leaves - they're perfectly edible. My goats absolutely love them too. Don't see why they wouldn't make good cow chow as well.

I need to plan out how I can get the cattle into the garden at the end of the season. I think they would clean it up and fertilize it nicely. I think I can just add a gate across from the garden gate and stretch and tie off some temporary strands of barbwire, gate post to gate post. Open the gates and they will find their way in, I'm sure. They already do tricks for tomatoes and bell peppers it would only be a once a year thing.

i would always want a pretty sturdy barrier as all would take is one failure to ruin a lot of work.

picked a melon and then some onions to use in today's taco meat (for taco salads). since the forecast is for rain for the next few days i decided i should also get some onion seeds harvested before they completely rot or fall all over the place. it is likely a big mistake to let all these onion seeds fall around where they are at but i can always just eat them as small green onions or turn the whole thing under. it's not too bad out there at the moment and it would be a good idea for me to finish getting whatever onions that are out there pulled and box-topped for drying. they're already completely cured except for the bottoms where they still might have some dirt and a few roots coming out of them. trim a bit and wipe the dirt off and they're ok.

for some reason i'm too lazy right now. i picked beans and weeded all week and after this morning's adventures i'm kinda like, hey, ok, let it rain...

Hi lovelies! Back at home. I swear my animals look bigger and was only 3 days away,lol Let them out for 30 min but began to rain,so in they went.
Everything smooth on my way back. Son gave me a 4x8 trailer and hauled it fine home. Great to get straw bales in a few weeks to winterize the coops. Concert got canceled and did not know. We went bowling instead for a few hours. Still tired. Hub picked 65 tomatoes and about 17 peppers. Maybe if not too much rain, will do some weeding taking advantage that soil is soft. Maybe I will get the remaining onions out and cover the box up for next season, or maybe I can plant the garlic there for late fall. Not sure if I can do that. Need to Google that. Found a gardener's journal. Need to see what I remember what I did and plan for next season. Well, need to do some cooking and rest.

They used to get local sweet potatoes in at the Farm Fresh we frequented in Virginia Beach. The first ones in would sometimes be the size of footballs or bigger. I found the thought of cutting them into manageable pieces for dinner intimidating.

One big one like that would be plenty for dinner for a family and maybe leftovers. We eat lots of sweet potato when I make it so your mileage may vary.
