    Need Well Water Experts

Sounds like iron water to me from description of the smell. It cooks the best pot of beans you've ever tasted. However, look at the sinks, commode, etc and see if there is an orange stain. If so, it's iron and will stain your clothes as well. It could be sulphur water, but that usuallyhas a...

    Sauerkraut is "ughghghg" nasty smelling

I used my own grown cabbage, I don't use whey. and I've always let my cabbage set in the crock for a few weeks til it tastes as sour as I want before I can it. How am I going to know if it's good? Someone said it'll be pinkish and slimmy. Is this the only indications of it...

I made the 2 loaf recipe today by hand. No mixer. We really liked it. A nice, heavy loaf. A lot of mising and kneading for these old arthritic hands but my DH says it was very good. Thanks for the recipe.

I want to keep my Octobers as a dried bean. Already some of the hulls have dried and the beans are rattling. Should I go ahead and pick those, shell and let them lay out to finish drying? While waitng for the rest to dry on the vine? Do I need to do anything else to preserve them? Thanks

    Any unconventional canners out there?

Hey...try putting a slice of green tomato on the top of your jar of corn next time and see if this doesn't help. Provides a little acid to the mix but doesn't change the flavor of the corn. We've never had any problems with corn going bad with this method. I think its cool to find another...
