AL - Recording baby steps: Newest Addition

I have never dusted mine with anything, but I am assuming that the sulfur is to ward off insects and possibly rodents.

hey AL, how ya doin with all that 'cold'

*harumps and sulks off *

I didn't think I'd heard of anyone here "dusting" them... think I'll skip it ;)

hehee OFG, I was gonna come here and complain about the ice on everything, having to refill water buckets everywhere, etc etc
But then I stopped by your journal first. Never mind. :D

I am trying my hand at doughnuts this morning! Just a few more minutes and I'll be dumping them in the cooker.

I have a confession. I don't cook. Ever. At all. At least, no cooking unless it is a cardboard meal you put in the microwave. I do stuff like lots of cereal, instant oatmeal, instant grits. If I want real food, I go to my mom's house ;) .

Well, at 38 years old I have discovered I LOVE to cook! Granted, all I have done is stuff like bread, some chicken, and now doughnuts. I am a bit of a hard head / stubborn and it plays against me instead of FOR me sometimes.
Anyway, today I bought 10lbs of flour, some cooking "utensils" of my own, a pizza ....thing.... like what OFG had in her photo everyone was drooling over. I already have some stuff my mom has bought me, she is just ga-ga over me cooking :P

ooops.... gotta go tend to doughnuts!

Cool! Cooking can be fun. I'm not a cook either but I sure like to eat!

My mom bought me a copy of The Joy of Cooking when I moved out on my own. I bought one for my daughter too, when she moved out.

I still refer to mine regularly. I could not be without it! There is a recipe for everything in there and gives you the basic culinary course about each food topic. The book has many many editions and you can usually pick one up at the Goodwill if you look around.

I'll have to see if I can find that, SD. I never ever would have imagined I would like cooking!! I grew up in a home where my mom made complete, homemade, from scratch etc southern meals every single day.... but it never caught on with me.

Ok, this picture is posted with a warning. Continue at your own risk..... sugar coma is imminent but it tastes soooo good getting there

It's never to late to learn to cook :) Glad you are enjoying it. Doughnuts sound mighty good right now...Oh my gosh they look great! Nice job!!!

HOLEY DONUTS, AL!!!

those are spectacular... ok we need more coffee.... wowza!

and look at you go! cook away baby! a lot of gals in our generation (and espeically younger) were led to believe that cooking was lame. its not - and its never too late to learn! cook away baby, cook away!

Rachael Ray is a great place to start. its easy, approachable, and you can make supper in a jiffy. with your late day schedule you could watch the last 20 mins of her show, make that recipe, and have it for lunch or to take to work. easy peasy and much better than anythign you can get in a box (but use whole wheat pasta instead of regular even if she doesnt).

:-)

my joy of cooking is literally in chunks.. and i have 2 from the 1940's - they are treasures.

I'd like about a dozen w/cinnamon sugar on instead, please. :drool
