Looks great, Bay! Gosh, I wish my watermelons would get going and to producing point. They are growing so slooooow.
Maybe they need a heat lamp! LOL LOL

This morning I was in the garden st 6:30, watering corn, cucumbers and zucchini. Then I picked two wash pans heaped up with purple hull peas. We shelled out 9 pounds. I put 8 bags of 2 cups each in the freezer plus some for supper tonight.

And we had a watermelon!

It was sweet and good. The best part, it came up from seeds when we tossed rinds to the pigs last fall. There are more ready to pick, we're going to spread them around the neighborhood.

I've got lots of little volunteer "somethings" coming up in the area that was formerly the pig pen. I know there's yellow squash because I see little yellow squash on it! The other 'stuff' is something more vining...maybe melon-ish? Think I remember throwing some cantaloupe out there, but threw lots of other stuff too...time will tell I guess.

We throw ALOT of stuff to the chickens. I bet if i moved them next year the whole pen would be covered in squash, melons, cucumbers and tomatoes. Hmmm might be worth the work for the harvest.

Volunteer gardens are always fun - they're like a mystery for awhile. And, for whatever reason they seem to do well. Maybe cuz nobody is manipulating them, they just grew where the growing was good!

Hey there Mrs Green Thumb. Your garden is kicking it, looking great. Orange fleshed water melon looks good. I've never had any orange fleshed water melon before, does it taste like red fleshed water melon?
