CheerioLounge - Desert Dreamin'

Ahhh, bless her heart! :hugs for her.

You might try every other day or so to put one of the original flock into HER pen. That way she's the dominant one in her area. After they've all integrated into her territory you 'should' be able to move them back where you want them. Of course, there's always one that's at the bottom of the pecking order no matter how unfair it seems. Hope it works out!

Poor chicken girl :hugs

I don't like it when one of them gets ganged up on! Makes me think its time for chicken stew, lots of chicken stew! :P

When I had trouble integrating, I tried wiping vinegar on all of them - it's supposed to make them all 'neutral', but it didn't work for me. Trying to reverse the process, putting the flock in with the loner, sounds like a really clever way of doing it - except my loner was in a dog crate at the time - might've been tight quarters

Hey Cindi!! Nice to "see" you!!

The thought has crossed my mind, but they all are such good layers that I can't bring myself to do that (just yet.)

J thinks I'm nuts of course. He thinks I oughta just put em all together and let it happen the way it happens.

If I had a larger space and they were allowed to free range, I probably would just let nature take it's course. But in a 15' x 7' pen and 40 sq ft yard there just isn't anywhere for her to go to get away from the harassment.

I was just going to add my 2 cents' worth: sometimes it works to separate the biggest bully, if you can determine that. It takes a bully down a peg or two, and gives the remaining ones a chance to befriend each other again. Then again, sometimes once the biggest bully is out of the way, the next biggest bully steps up to the plate. :/

Thanks So Lucky! I thought about that too. If the current plan doesn't work, I'll give that a try! Time will tell...

Hey Cheery Oh :P Haven't had time to catch up reading but wanted to say hello before you got offline!!! ;) Missed you hun :hugs

So glad you did!!! I believe I am going to be a regular again!!! We had to drop the smartphone for awhile; so no internet access, but we have re-activated it and now I can rejoin the world outside my little corner of the desert! I have so missed you too!!

Wouldn't you know it!! You sign on and I go to reply to your post and someone calls the smartphone and disconnects me! :th

 Go figure with the phone huh :) Hope both of us can resume our "regular" status again :D

Happy New Year! :frow

It's a gray, bleary day here in the Mojave Desert. 27 degrees when I got up to take the dog out. He made a beeline for his nearest poop spot, did his business, and hightailed it straight back to the front door. Didn't even bother barking at the chickens like he usually does. I can't fault him for wanting to hurry back inside though, He's 10 years old and has a bit of alopecia and his tail and hind end are balding. So I know he gets cold quickly. Bless his sweet, old heart. He's still pretty energetic though.

Going to be a quiet day here. Biscuits and gravy with homefries for breakfast and a pork roast for dinner. :drool

Have a great day!
