We're going for a moonlit trail ride tonight. It will be a full moon. We're going to someone's house that lives next to Wharton State Forest. We'll camp in their field.

I'm so disappointed. I had so looked forward to this ride ever since we first planned it months ago. Thursday was a beautiful evening as well as Friday. There was the possibility of showers on Saturday, but not until late. We figured we'd get out ride in and be back to camp B4 it ever hit. Then, there was the possibility of more showers Saturday night and Sunday. Whether or not we rode on Sunday would depend entirely on the weather.

I get to the farm. It was later than I had planned on getting there, and it had already started to rain. Called hubby on the phone, he checked the weather. It was fine were we were headed, and the hourly forecast didn't call for any rain until later. RU also talked to one of the other people who was planning on going that lives in the area. He assured her that it was only cloudy, so we decided to chance it. I took care of my chickens, then chucked what I knew I'd need into the truck. I only forgot 2 thikngs-my air pump and my lighter. We head over, and it didn't stop the whole way there. We get there, and it's still raining. The guy we talked to was already there. The guy that owned the property, MA, had us all park in one of the fields and close the gate. There was a whole 5 of us there. So he told us to go ahead and let the horses loose. The horses didn't mind. After all, there was plenty of yummy green grass for them to eat. We talked about saddling up and trying to get at least a quick ride in. But, it started to thunder. So, we decided we'd make a fire, relax around it if possible, then try for a ride in the morning.

Once we got the fire going, it stopped raining. While it didn't clear up completely, the moon did make several appearances. So, we sat around the fire and talked until late-around 12:00! When I realized how late it was, I told everyone I was going to bed. KN had helped me a bit earlier to get my tent set up. I had the tarp set up over top of it, but need to tweek that situation a bit.

Since I didn't have my air mattress w/me, I had a bit of trouble getting comfortable, but was finally able to fall asleep. And, I slept good-until around 3:00 am. That's when it started to rain. I thought about getting up and going in the RV. After all, I'm in a tent next to a steel trailer and it's thundering and lightening out. I finally decided if the storm got bad enough, I would. I dozed off. Then, at 5:00, it got bad. Plus, one of the poles I had to hold the tarp up and come down. So, I decided to go spend the rest of the night in the RV. I didn't get too wet, and was finally able to fall back asleep-until around 7:00. Then I got up, got what I needed to make coffee and KN and I both sat there and talked. It stopped raining a bit and I decided I was going to go and put away my tent. I had just started when I felt a couple drops of rain on me, and headed back to the RV. I got there just in time. The skies opened up. It woke up both RU and LF. And, it didn't stop. I finally went out in the pouring rain and took down my tent, and threw it and the poles in the back of my truck. We waited a bit longer and it wasn't stopping. So, in the pouring rain, we went out, caught the horses and loaded them up. All of them were shivering and shaking. Since I hadn't been expecting anything like this, I hadn't put Misty's rain sheet on her. It's on now. I don't know how many inches of rain we've gotten. Roads and fields are flooded in places, so we crept home. And, as soon as I could, I came home and got a warm showere. Now I'm ready to go to sleep. We're hoping we can go next month instead.

I'm sorry your excursion got ruined!
That happens ALL the time here.....we have a saying that if you aren't going to do something when it is raining, then you will never do it here. People just plow along through it....

but I don't think I'd ride in a thunderstorm either!

Geez! That's much more fun when you are still in high school. I remember it always seemed like a crazy funny adventure to be rained on the whole trip.

There's not much going on around here right now. I went to work, went to the farm, fed animals, scooped up poop and did some house work. But, the biggest news is the find I made.

When we were going to the ride that didn't happen, I noticed a place w/a whole stack of pallets in front of it. And, there was a sign on the pallets that said free. So, I decided that if they were still there when we got back, I'd see if I could get them. They were still there yesterday, but it was pouring, and it was flooded where they were! The little town to the west of me got 9" of rain yesterday! There's roads washed out, flooded, etc. So, there was no way I was going to stop in then.

Today, I went down the road again. It's not that far from the farm. And, the pallets were still there! Only problem being, they were still sitting in water. But, it appeared to be some type of business and there were a ton of vehicles there. So, I was hoping for some help in loading them in my truck. Come to find out, they just put those out to get people to stop. They have a TON of pallets, and most of them are free for the taking. The guy I talked to said they burned about 500 last winter! So, I got the 10 more I need for my RBs. Right now, there's nothing else that I need them for, but that's subject to change. We'll see.

Oh, and Abi, it would have been more fun to be rained on if we had had something to do. We didn't have so much as a pack of cards on us!

Nice Calendula!! I'm sooooo looking forward to next spring when we can do container gardening.... Not a huge yard, but great for lots of containers!

It's a little late in the year for that, but you've given me ideas for next year!

Today was a fun day at work. W/all the rain that we had on Sunday, there was work to be done on the stream where I work. So, I did the smart thing-I wore shorts and took my muck boots. After all, they go up almost to my knees.

I was pruning some trees to get them back away from the stream. This meant stepping in the stream. I have a hole in the side of my boot! So needless to say, my foot got wet. I took off my sock, put it on her pickup to dry, and stuck my boot back on w/out the sock. It felt squishy, but it wasn't bad.

We moved to a different spot. We had to do quite a bit of work there. I noticed that the water was almost to the top of my boot! So, I took off my other sock. Good thing I did. Not much longer after that, I stepped in a spot where the water was over the top of my boots! So, I ended up w/water in both of them! I tried working like that, but found it impossible. I took my boots off. My boss was wearing jeans. She also ended up w/water in her boots but she kept them on. I don't think she was very comfortable. By the time we were done, my sock was almost dry. So, I put them back on, as well as my barn boots. I actually got a full day's worth of work today. That's the first time in weeks!

Next, I headed to the farm. I had the farrier coming. KN also had a horse that needed to be done. But, she couldn't stay. She came w/PT, and PT needed to leave. I let her go 1st. Otherwise, I would have had to get her horse, hold it, then put it back. I preferred to let her hold her own horse. Once he was done w/her horse, he did Misty. It's amazing how quickly her hooves grew! Then, he did Licorice. Stormy didn't need to be done. I got Honey out. She was being a PITB. And, her hooves didn't look bad. Neither of us felt like messing w/her, so she didn't get done.

Tomorrow is the only day out of the whole week that's not supposed to have any rain. So, I'll set up my tent and let it dry out. Then, there's a chance of showers on Thursday, Friday and Saturday! This is after the 9" or so we got on Sunday, as well as the inch or 2 we got last night. I wish I had had a chance to put out my new water tank. It was empty when we left on Saturday. Now, it's half full!
