Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

So... Uh... Where are those pics?:p

I wish we lived closer, my DH would have come right over to help you with that pig!

So... Uh... Where are those pics
Ummmm, I refuse to answer on the grounds of being a self-confessed procrastinator?

Actually, I was all ready to take pics and the first one showed a gilt with a shi.... uh....crappy butt. What the heck? I can't sell a pig with poopy butt. They've been running in the pasture for a day or so. My guess is that she's been eating a lot of grass and got herself 'loose'.

AND,, to top it all off DH tells me this afternoon that he'd like to do some butchering on the younger ones...like an experiment. He wants to butcher one at 50 lbs....75 lbs...100 lbs....What the heck? I don't get it. He's been asking me every other day if we're selling pigs soon?

Looked at some of the does today... may only be about 3-4 weeks for a couple of them. Hard to believe!

I've gotta get some worming done tomorrow and I'll give CDT's to the does that are due the soonest.

Lord help me - and ya'll help me. I don't need to keep any babies unless I sell something else.

Is he just assuming you're not selling them and therefore you have to start butchering soon? Lol!

So should we wish for you to have a buck year? Less tempting!

LOL - who knows what he's assuming! I know we speak the same language - but sometimes it's hard to decipher!

I'm still trying to figure out how we'll have freezer space if we butcher a boar soon - and then piglets about every month or two.... His idea hurts my head, lol!

So, first thing tomorrow morning I'll re-assess the piglet butt and if it's clean the posting is going up on Craigslist! I have spoken - so shall it be!:hide

I think I've got DH sold on trying guinea hogs, now that we've lost our access to a full sized boar for our gilts.and one of them is not at all friendly enough to breed. So... Once again wishing I lived closer to you! Kinder goat/guinea hog starter package?

Hope the poopy butt is no more and those piggies go fast to make room for kids!!

I saw pot bellies for sale the other day at a local farm. I was thinking of doing what you guys said and just bringing two of them home without "asking permission", but I chickened out....besides, I have nothing set up to keep them in. Perhaps, I need to start making a pen under the guise of calling it a "garden"...then build a shelter under the guise of "storage area"...then bring them home. :hu :hide

the smaller the pigs are the easier to process yourself would be my guess. That's why people raise the smaller breeds.
