It is historic and it should be recognized as such.

But not as "worship" obviously.

Anything "first time" like this election or a walk on Mars or such should should be noted in history.

There will always be racism. As long as their are people and opinions it will never change.

My kids got to vote, learned a LOT about the election process and democracy but not much about the candidates. They both had the chance to watch the inauguration, which I very glad for since we don't have TV at home. Were they "forced" to watch it? Is asking children to sit still and be quiet while they are watching something "forcing" them to watch it?

I remember voting for presidents in my early school years, learning about them, watching historic events on TV during school hours. Sure wouldn't call it propaganda then, sure wouldn't call it propaganda now.

What I personally tell my kids is that this is an incredible moment in America's history. And, we will all wait and see how our new president does. No hero worship here but a real feeling of excitement for what this means to a lot of people in America and around the world.

I don't get why everyone keeps calling it a historical election. He is not the first black man to be president as he is only half black. Plus we have already had 5 presidents that were part black way before him. And a few others are under question too if they have any black ancestors. The only way it would be historical was if he were 100% black & he is not.
As to this article being propoganda, no it is not! There is a significant amount of "Obama Worship" going on in this country. People crying when they see him, like they did with the beetles & other stars like that! Which is absolutely ridiculous as he is just a man!
This is just another reason I am so glad my son does not attend public school & that we homeschool him as we will dd too.

When I was a kid the teachers never voiced their opinion on who should be president(they were not allowed to). I think it is just sickening that teachers have as much influence over what a child believes anymore. It really is the parents job to teach children those things & let them form their own opinions as to which political party they choose to follow & who they would vote for. I have never thought to tell my ds#1 who he needs to vote for when he turned 18. The only thing I told him was he had a responsibility to register to vote & to vote. The school should only teach them how the gov't works & the difference between all the political parties.

I apologize for using the inflammatory word "propaganda." That was probably a bit much. But, you are indicating that political agendas are being forced down public school children's throats despite a number of us posting here to state this is not the case at all where we live.

OK, who saw the first moon landing on tv?
I did - it was late at night or something - as I recall. Neat stuff...I grew up with the Kennedy "mandate" of space supremacy and all that...science and tech were the big things. Now you have millions of Americans who can't cook, balance a check-book, or any of those practical life skills. Ooooh, don't get me started.... *nudging the soapbox back under the desk*

As for the original post...I don't have anyone in school and I don't know this Alex Jones but the article is clearly sensational - in the strictest use of the word. What some people will do for readership....

Not to worry until you see the cups of Kool-aid.

This forum is hardly representative of the country at large, since we've got Canadians and people from other countries posting here, too. The propaganda is most definitely being spread in the schools around here, people are complaining about it all the time and it's making the newspapers. Just because it isn't happening where you live doesn't mean it isn't happening where someone else lives - this is a big country, after all. I think now that the inauguration and the Obamagasm has died down things will settle down - and I hope he's ready for a far fall, because someone who's hoisted up so high on a pedestal has nowhere to go but down! I didn't vote for him and vehemently oppose many of his views, but in a way I do feel bad for him, he's got an awful situation on his hands. The Presidency isn't a learn as you go position.

I'm not trying to speak for the country at large. As I indicated in my last comment, it is not happening where a lot of us live, which I what I thought the OP was asking.

Why nitpick about ancestry (a debate I have no intention of getting drawn into). He is most definitely the first "publicly identified as non caucasian" president, ok? Which is also, in many ways, a much bigger deal in today's world than at many times in the past.

If his identifiable race is not a big deal to you, neato. To many people, though, it is a major milestone for him to have been elected president, and if you think about the past 150 years of American history you can certainly see WHY. It's not like some weird mystery.

There is a significant amount of "Obama Worship" going on in this country. People crying when they see him, like they did with the beetles & other stars like that! Which is absolutely ridiculous as he is just a man!
Of course he is. And of course some people are going overboard.

But I am a bit suspicious of this being called "worship" when it concerns him, whereas I do not think you would be speaking of "Beatles worship" or "Michael Jackson worship" or the like.

My goodness, there is (or anyhow used to was) a pretty strong posthumous do-no-wrong mystique goin' regarding JFK. And a number of other political figures thru history (particularly if you look on the state level).

It's just people being people. Same as always.

If you are going to bring in the last 150 yrs then he is even LESS signifcant in his election, as 2 of our past "black" presidents were elected during slavery times! That to me is more significant than now. Of course it was not publicly acknowledge, but still that they were elected & re-elected during these times speaks volumes. I just am tired of everyone calling him the first when he is not, it is a lie. I feel the American people especially should be told the whole truth, not just what he wants them to hear. He knows he is not the first but does he correct it? No he goes right on with the hype. Would more people respect him that are against him if he spoke up & told the truth? Might happen, I know I would have a little more respect for him if he were honest about it.
As to the worship it is worse than the Beetles & Michael Jackson. People who are interviewed on TV have kept refering to how he is going to save this country! How awesome he is! I have news for them, one man can not save this country!!! It has to be a collective measure of everyone who has been elected to office in Washington, they have to work together to save this country as we know it being a capitalistic society. But that will not happen as he is not for a capialisitc society, he is for Socialism or even Marxism. Look at how the news treats him too, never in my life when a new president tok office has there been so much hype & coverage of him like they do now. I mean come on a press conference for every cabinet member? That is a little excessive in my opinion. In the past there was usually one press conference to announce them all. I am surprised they haven't announced what type of toilet paper he likes to use for crying out loud.
As to JFK, I have always heard about scandals going on with him. So no ne'r do wrong in my teachings. He is regarded as a great president but that is because he was a "Country First" type of president. Not a "world leader" as Obama is referred to time & time again. We need a president who is concerned with our country & running it not the world. And before you slam me for that comment he has been saying "now the world" since the primaries started.
