I don't get why everyone keeps calling it a historical election. He is not the first black man to be president as he is only half black. Plus we have already had 5 presidents that were part black way before him.
Why nitpick about ancestry (a debate I have no intention of getting drawn into). He is most definitely the first "publicly identified as non caucasian" president, ok? Which is also, in many ways, a much bigger deal in today's world than at many times in the past.
If his identifiable race is not a big deal to you, neato. To many people, though, it is a major milestone for him to have been elected president, and if you think about the past 150 years of American history you can certainly see WHY. It's not like some weird mystery.
There is a significant amount of "Obama Worship" going on in this country. People crying when they see him, like they did with the beetles & other stars like that! Which is absolutely ridiculous as he is just a man!
Of course he is. And of course some people are going overboard.
But I am a bit suspicious of this being called "worship" when it concerns him, whereas I do not think you would be speaking of "Beatles worship" or "Michael Jackson worship" or the like.
My goodness, there is (or anyhow used to was) a pretty strong posthumous do-no-wrong mystique goin' regarding JFK. And a number of other political figures thru history (particularly if you look on the state level).
It's just people being
people. Same as always.
