NH Homesteader's first kidding season!

I'm tempted to keep a doe from Mimosa but I really can't with the GG's coming. At least one GG at least. She only has 4 GG does and one aborted last weekend (someone nailed her hard in the belly, so sad). So we'll see what she has.

Anyway just Patty's babies are staying right now.

FEM, tell me about congested udders. Mimosa's udder is big and feels full, not lumpy or hot or over full, just full. Short of milking her out, what do I look for?

Help me remember - she's NOT a FF is she? Can you get milk out of it? Congested udders are really hard to get milk out of. You've gotta get it flowing if it isn't coming out. The congestion is basically inflammation and swelling in the mammary tissue. Massage, massage, massage, warm cloth compresses, peppermint based lotion, are things you can try. Are her babies nursing well....or do they seem hungry?

Babies are spunky and acting normal, nursing normally. She's a 3 year old 2F. I might be paranoid... She gets grain but not a ton. She is not in pain, she is allowing the kids to nurse. They don't look like they're frustrated when they nurse. I'll try to milk some in the morning. She has triplets, but one keeps nursing off Bellini. Weirdo. I think she's nursing from both does lol.

Hey, she's a smart baby - especially if she can get away with it, lol!

Hopefully, Mimosa is just a really good milker with a big ol' udder!

I'm hoping! She's my only mini that's not a FF so her udder looks huge!

Bellini couldn't care less who's nursing, lol, she's doing awesome. Particularly because she's normally a spaz. She's way, way calmer since she kidded!

Milk comes out nice and easy! No lumps, not hot... Just a lovely udder!

Mimosa and Bellini's babies in the warming barrel!
