root celler questions

Thank goodness I have a decent-sized pantry in my 9x9 kitchen, but that's for tons of spices, storebought canned (like coconut milk for soaps, tomato paste), dried beans, oats, salt, etc.

We have a pantry planned for the basement right now...........

I've always dreamed of having a walk-in pantry with huge sturdy shelves on which to store canned goods....they get so dusty, webby and icky out in the cellar. Maybe one day...... :fl

My mom has one. Enormous kitchen (nearly 50 this Thanksgiving), walk-in pantry, a second sink with a work station. Sigh. Plus another canning kitchen in the basement.

Wow. That is a woman whose husband understands how to make a woman happy....what more could a woman want? :bow

Oh we have plans for a big pantry too, but not near that big. I would LOVE a huge pantry! I guess we don't have canned goods in the root cellars here due to the high humidity throughout the year. It ruins the rings and lids here to store them outside. I have a cabinet to store them in in my kitchen when they aren't in use too. It is a pain, but saves me from having to buy new every year.

I feel like I have been slighted then. My hubs is a carpenter, as is his two brothers and dad...maybe I should light a fire under his tail :lau

Im thinking so!

Nah..maybe we need to get some materials first ;) It's been a long time in planning. Wish I had done it rather than building the back deck and if I'd known THEN how things were gonna get I would've!
