When I had my kids the golden rule in naming them was that you HAD to be able to read it and pronounce it easily!
Isn't that always the way. My hubby's first name has 10 letters and his unusual middle name has another 6 PLUS he has some numbers after all of that! Pretty big handle for a little dyslexic boy to handle. My son on the other hand has 8 total letters in his name. We think the simple names are best.

I've had the same problem with people pronouncing my name in school.
Apparently everyone I meet has never heard of Merle Haggard either.

I've been called Mar-leh, Merleh, Merlee, Marl, Marle, Earl, Melvin, and Merlin. and now when I think of the name Merle.. what an odd name!

My grandpa's name is Merl (and he doesn't even go by that, he goes by his middle name Ivan) but when I came along my mom threw on the extra 'e'. My brother got the normal name; but then again, I'm pretty weird compared to him. ;)

Okay, I'm Dunegan Mountain Arin because my name is Arin and I moved to a new home literally on Dunegan Mountain in southwestern Washington. Because of living here I became more interested in Self Sufficient living so it seemed appropriate. We can heat our home with wood we grow but other than that are not much more self sufficient than before (other than using well water and having our own septic) but I'm on this site to learn more!

I just Googled Dace and found a few Swedes named Dace.

I also found a lot of fish.

And I thought we were crazy for calling my niece Meredith, "Murphy". No reason, except to drive her mother crazy.
