Had a great time at my Nephews wedding. Hard to believe this young man is now in his early thirties and starting a family of his own. Visited with some of my family, not all could go.
Not much going on.
Well there is and here isnt.
Making chicken stock.
doing house chores
dealing with not one but 2 mountains of laundry.
For some reason my cat is -=[p <----(he wrote this) Climbing all over my computer, desk and workspace. Making a mess.
I worked in the garden yesterday. Piocked a bunch of green and purple beans, some snow peas as well. My broccoli is starting to grow. Well at least the plants are.
Planning a trip, yes Karen a trip, for a off roading ride. Never been to this place before should be interesting. All this talk of cast iron had got my gears turning. I think I will try to do more on an open fire. we will be gone for about 5 days, 4 1/2 really or as long as the water last. Dry camping is such a challenge. Love it!!!

I love that the cat contributed to your post.I have never camped without water nearby. Do you go out in the desert, away from the national/state parks?

Well, we really don't camp without water. The trailer carries something like 120 gallons. The trick is to see how long I can make it last. We normally camp in the Anza Borrego State Park, its only 100 miles away. Lots of riding and great accessability. This trip were going a bit further. We are heading north of LA to Gorman.. My first time there with some folks we have not seen in a while. New places make me a bit nervous especially with the kids riding. 
Not sure what I'm cooking yet. Jury still our on that. I have a while to plan still.
In the mean time DS has a 3d report on the layers of the earth.
Lots of normal house stuff. I have been slowly cleaning up the garden. Still need to clean the coop.
And on and on.

I know dry camping lol...120 gal. don't go far if you use it up fast. you have to be vigilant.
worst for me is the black tank. we hit the state parks and no sewer hookup. so it is be careful, do ya drag along the blue tote or do you hook up and hit the dump. We would use the shower house for beach rinse off and then take military showers in the camper...works for us LOL
believe me we can make tanks go very far!
And don't worry, enjoy the company, you know those kids will have a ton of fun and it will all be safe!

I have no idea how big our black tank is but its never filled. I have been in the desert for 5 days with no problem. No communal showers or water spigots to borrow from. The kids wear their mx gear all day so they stay relatively clean. dust is always an issue but you learn to deal. I like to wear bandannas and keep the girls hair in braids this way we only wash it once or twice while out there.
The dutch oven is great for this. One pot to wash. I normally use the outside shower thingy and just give it a easy scrub. No biggie. Paper plates and napkins are a must, not enough water for washing dishes.
I might fill a five gallon camping water bucket thingy I have. Take that for the dog.
In the old days we had a cab over with a 40 gallon tank. We would strap a 55 gallon blue barrel on the bike trailer and then run a tiny little pump to refill the tank. We were very hillbilly. I loved every minute of it.
It will be fun. I hate having the kids miss school but we all need a break. The folks we are meeting up with are my dh childhood friends and I think people they know.
Its always quite a spectacle when we pull up with the rig.
the only thing that's killing me is the rest of dh family is going as well. The desert stuff used to be our thing. Our family get away. His sis went to the river, hid mom and dad went to Catalina island and traveled the world. Now with the economy the free desert is appealing to them. And they all go too. I never get a break. Kids have fun with their cousins though. And I can hang in my rig and read or watch a movie.
Speaking of, i ordered a book on growing grain. That should be just boring enough to put me to sleep.
Need to make a list for everything else I have to gather up and buy. There is always something I forget.

oh yea for me camping to to get away from everything and everybody. I feel for you. While the kids have a great time, it becomes 'work' for you almost doesn't it?

Well have not had much to write about on my SS journal. Not much SS going on around here. We have covered 6h grade 3D solar systems and book reports On Percy Jackson. Had a few teeth fall out with visits from the tooth fairy but not much else.
I have been working on making chicken stock, organizing my pantry and figuring out what other pantry stuffs I should be tracking down. This time of year there are always some excellent deals.
Butt I did go out in my field to find a bit of a surprise the other day.
Looks like I found my turkey eggs.
There must be at least 16 eggs in the nest and she is diligently sitting. So I may have some more mouths to feed by Christmas!! They are tucked way back under this huge blackberry bramble in my chicken yard. I think she should do ok. I have not had any coyote jump the fence but we will see.
Today is the first Sat of our Thanksgiving vacation. We are home which bites. I really wanted to go to the desert again but we didn't plan it well. Dh couldn't take off Mon and I hate going just for 2 days. So we are working on house stuff.
Dh helped me clean out the big coop today. There is rain coming so I wanted to get the stinky pine liter under my fruit trees asap. Then we went down and pulled out all the wild tomatoes in the little coop's run. I have 4 roos right now. Old jack, that new Black rare breed one McMurray sent me, a mutt from a natural hatch and I think an Americanna. I am thinking I will take the 3 black australorp hens and the roo down to the little coop. Give them their own apartment.
Maybe I will get lucky and have one of the girls set some eggs in the spring. The rest of the roosters all get along pretty well. The Toms keep them in line. 
I picked up 3, three yard pieces of Tartan fabric at a yard sale yesterday. Im thinking long straight skirts for the girls and myself. One is rathe thick and I can just see it as a nice wrap around paired with boots and a sweater.
Well not much else happening. Oh except that my kids are so hard up for fun they got out the snow sleds. Not sure why we have snow sleds anyways but... As I type this they are out sliding down 8 inch tall wet grass on the steep hill west of my house. My son definitely watches that hillbilly stunt show way to much.
Well I'm off to stir my split pea soup.
