gardens inside the fence are all planted, i have two large gardens outside the fence that need to be planted with beans. not much rains and a back injury are putting me on a slower speed setting than usual, plus strawberries are coming in and need picking and the strawberry patch also needs weeding. so doing some of that yesterday and then running errands. this morning also taking a break and perhaps won't be back to planting until tomorrow or Friday. would be very nice to have it all done but also need to do some watering and yes, weeding too. just the crazy time of the year.

a lot of beanie babies coming up so that's always good to see, melons and squash starting to sprout, tomatoes and onions starting to grow after being transplanted, etc.

hard to believe that in 11 days it's the longest day of summer already. i would like this time of the year to last a good six months more at least. :) just without the heat and regularly spaced rains.

it's been so dry here that the grass is already turning brown. normally that can happen later in the summer. the few rains we've had didn't get the flow of the big ditch out back up at all. i wish i could get back there and get some work done while it's this low. no chance. none at all...

Ummmm.... I'm further south! I'm living in a time suck right now, but surely by spring I could devote an area to tuck a few seeds in the dirt. No pressure of course, lol!

I like a good experiment...

you'll have to fence them very well to keep the animals out, but i'll send you some to try. :) PM address and i'll put you down for sending. :) probably will be after the first of the year before i get to it. i have one more large package going out this week and i'm done for my budget this year so i have to wait for the calendar to roll around again and my funds magically reappear. :)

this bird was picking along the expansion joint in the cement driveway where seeds were blown during the winter. it went along the entire line and then also along the further edge - was fun to watch and brightened up an otherwise very dreary day.

not the best picture but at least it reminds me of those moments and makes me smile. :)

i tried to get a movie of it but i'd never taken a movie with the camera before and i couldn't figure it out quickly enough. oops...

reclaimed more space today by taking a few items to the metal recycle place. the biggest item taking up space in my room was an old cheap paper shredder that broke after a few years. i did get my money's worth out of it. i just didn't want to put it in recycling (they don't want certain things anyways) and i didn't want to put it in the trash either. there's enough metal in it to make it worth it to someone to recycle. same for the other item which was a shop light which should have lasted longer, but didn't. LED only about 5yrs old. it flickered, probably not really the best thing to have it out in the garage with how cold it gets. anyways, a lot of metal in that too. so glad to have them go to the metal place and he said he could do something with them. the cords were copper too, that's always good to recycle.

the light went out just last month but the paper shredder i'd had sitting there for a few years collecting dust and taking up room. a few cubic feet of space that is good to have freed up, plus now i can dust under there easier (heh, like that's going to happen soon...)

last round of rain we had a very long soaking storm and the roof leaked again. in one spot. the roofing guy hasn't replied to my message yet. we hoped we got the problem figured out before and with the roof vent replacements i'd sure hoped that too. now we're going to have to figure out what to do next. i wanted him to pull up the top shingles and flashing around the corner where the leak was but he thought it was just the vents. so now that's going to probably have to get done. it might take a while to get him back here though. intermittent roof leaks are a pain in the butt. this has been going on for over 11yrs already. :( good thing we didn't fix the drywall or have any painting done. :)

still too cold and wet here to do any gardening. last night was down into the mid teens again. forecast for the next few days is wet and cold so i'm not going to get anything planted this week by the looks of it.

still nice to have the sun out for a change. :)
