there has been an owl outside hooting for the past hour or two (at least). i'm always glad to hear them because that means perhaps they're getting some mice. :)

caught two of the mice two nights ago, none last night. crows haven't found their offerings yet. in the past when i was trapping regularly the crows would come by every day but i've not had to trap much so they've not checked.

i did hear the crows calling this morning so they are still around.

rain and warmer today (mid 50s) with a week of mixed weather mostly above freezing (even at night). all ok with me.

winter projects continue. worm farm check today and get them fed and watered as needed then back to accounting/record keeping tinkering. it's going ok but it won't all get done quickly. a lot to learn and figure out still so that slows things down. the first part though is really easy, just keep up with things as they come in now so i'm not digging a deeper hole. :)

two more mice this past several days, and today i went out to check the traps and one of them is missing so maybe a raccoon or other night creature was involved. i walked around to see if i could find it but no luck yet.

it's very soggy out there with all the melted snow and rains we've had so i didn't wander around as far as i might have otherwise.

got the next one done this morning since their phone lines opened up at 8am. nice lady who i got laughing quite a few times. :) i told her i was a frequent trader (i've never changed anything with this account since i left my job back in '96). all set. checked off. next! :)

it was something i should have done years ago because the one account wasn't really doing all that great in comparison to the other, but now with the way the world is looking i think prospects for it were getting even worse. so basically it was switching funds from a global fund to a mostly indexed S&P 500 fund. not exactly but close enough and it's done well over the years.

in tracking down more information about Purple Dove i saw a reference from Russell Crow to Peace Seedlings in 2015 so i nosed around and now i see that they no longer have Purple Dove but they do have:

"Purple Amazon Snap Bush Phaseolus vulgaris 20/ 4.00

Beautiful tasty purple pods, worth growing. Lobitz original."

Also mentioned are:

Red Swan Snap Bush Phaseolus vulgaris 20/ 4.00

Early red skinned 5” pods, tasty, original by Robert Lobitz.

does anyone have these already and more importantly does anyone have pictures of the seeds in a close enough version where i can get a good look at them?

it's really frustrating to me to go look for beans and nobody posts pictures of the seeds. grrrrr! :)

as a further note i see that Robert's Royalty looks somewhat like some of my off type beans from PD. woohoo! :) :) :) in other words they may be siblings!

from Russ's network listing for Roberts Royalty: "Bush Snap. A Robert Lobitz named variety. He found this bean as a mutation in 1969 among plants he was growing of Royalty Purple Pod. Seed comes from Karen Golden of Highland, Michigan, October 2018."

this is the first reference to anything going back further which is a trail i can dig into more later... :)

p.s. a mutation may really be an out-cross...

p.p.s. Royalty Purple Pod goes back a ways... :)

chunking or chonking along... depending upon your perspective. :)

8 inches of snow, some shovelling, not enough could use a few more hours. cold now and that will help keep the snow around for a while i hope.

no action with the mouse traps but there is at least one mouse out there making tunnels in the snow.
